"In January, a blogger named Mark Ontkush wrote in his blog EcoIron that an all-black Google home page would save 750 megawatt-hours of electricity a year. What does that mean? We looked it up.

Turns out 750 megawatt-hours can power for an entire year:

-- 77 North American homes

-- 150 European homes

-- 268 African homes

-- 536 Asian or South American homes

-- 3,750 homes in Afghanistan

-- 6,000 televisions

-- 800 microwaves

Ontkush pointed out that an all-white Web page requires about 74 watts to display, where a black page requires only 59 watts. "

Here's the site:

Enjoy!!

1. Thank you! I am going to suggest this today at our staff
meeting.

Every little bit obviously helps, and these small changes are easy to make.

Cheers!

2. I wonder how much a light-on-dark DU skin...

...would save some of our more addicted users on their electricity bill :-)

5. I hate to be a kill-joy but this only applies to CRT monitors.

CRT's (for those that don't know) are the "TV like" monitors that are just about obsolete.

Actually...on modern Monitors, it takes slightly more for "Black Screen".

Sorry Folks

6. Interesting, but I wonder how this affects the eyes.
Any negative health effects on eyes?
