3. IIRC dry shippers are one of the first indications of economic
changes. Products and raw materials are either moving or not.
I can't read the numbers, but I hope it means things are moving.

4. Bulk dry shipping companies. They got destroyed because the Baltic Index
dropped 93% a few months ago. Now they're getting bought heavily by traders.

2. Holy crap! That's substantial for indices that were no longer visible to the naked eye 3 mos back!
Interesting.

5. This might help

http://www.investmenttools.com/futures/bdi_baltic_dry_index.htm

This index seems to almost always predict direction of markets. But, I wouldn't bet the farm on it.

6. Looks like a classic bear rally...
with a short squeeze for good measure.

We were due for a rally and shorts are taking their profits.

8. they are all bouncing off their lows
nice moves if you got in a few weeks ago, but the volume on most is light.

10. Absolutely
I agree completely with your analysis. I'd add that this is why stock prices just don't go straight down. We are no where near the bottom because the fundamental economic problems of our economy have not been addressed and will take at least a year or two to unravel if just left alone (i.e; the drying up of credit and the resultant drop in consumption). Look for this rally to diminish and the decline to continue in April.

Besides, can anyone cite a stock market rally in March?!?!? that presaged an economic recovery? No. Didn't think so.

9. These companies were among the first to really roll last year.
Good chance the survivors will lead the way out too. Worth watching and understanding.

11. I hope this portends something positive.
My husband's company builds hospitals and everything ground to a halt last year. Over the last week or so things have started to pick up. I know there are all kinds of fundamental problems with our economy but it would be nice all the same if some things started to pick up.

12. Pre consolidation phase.
No one is sure who will buy who or for that matter who's willing to merge. Think airlines.
