Apple's Jobs to take medical leave (CNNMoney)
By Ben Rooney, CNNMoney.com staff writer
Last Updated: January 14, 2009: 7:10 PM ET

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Apple Inc. CEO Steve Jobs said Wednesday he will take a leave of absence from the computer and music-player maker because of health issues.

Jobs, who announced last week that he suffered from a hormone imbalance that caused him to lose weight, said he will be away from the job until the end of June.

"In order to take myself out of the limelight and focus on my health, and to allow everyone at Apple to focus on delivering extraordinary products, I have decided to take a medical leave of absence until the end of June," Jobs said in a statement.

Jobs said curiosity over his personal health was a distraction and that his health-related issues have become "more complex" during the past week.

Tim Cook, the company's chief operating officer, will be responsible for Apple's day-to-day operations, according to the statement.

1. I almost cried at that...
and I'm ashamed. I don't cry all that much, and it's rare I cry over people I don't personally know, but driving home and hearing this made me incredibly sad. I am a die hard Apple/Steve Jobs fan. It's sad news because I just know he's never going to come back.

3. Never Surrender
Do not surrender even when defeated,
and do not be a slave even in bondage,
trembling with fear advance bravely,
and attack with fury, though badly wounded.

Be as stubborn as a rusting nail,
that refuses to yield though old and ruined,
and do not envy the peacock's plumage,
that drops in fear at the first noise.

Be as a god that never cries,
or as a devil that never prays,
or as the oak whose mighty canopy,
needs of water but does not beg it.

Even when it rolls to the dust,
let your head scowl and bite,
and scream for vengeance.

- Pedro Palacios Almafuerte
Argentinian poet 1854-1917

4. I can understand...

There is something about Steve Jobs. He defined a generation really. He took on
the establishment (Microsoft) and developed something new and fresh. I think there's
a creative part of every single person that longs to break out of the mold and challenge
the status quo. Steve Jobs nurtures that part of each of us.

He's like the little kid who is told to color inside the lines. Most kids do, but he
dared to color outside those lines and all over the table!

It's sad to see this happening to such a revolutionary.

I think it's a very good sign that he is taking some time off. You can bet that he's
going to be 100 percent committed to getting himself well.

I used to work in PR in the high-tech industry and I worked with a writer who knew
Steve Jobs well. She had lots of "Steve Jobs stories" and if there's one thing I
know--whatever is going on with his health, he will face it head on and fight like
hell. He'll be researching, exploring and seeking out the best doctors. This
must be his new mission, you can bet that he's going to treat this like a mountain
that WILL be scaled.

I understand your feelings and I think your reaction to his situation is very compassionate.
