Is there anything lower than the advertising industry? McDonald's NEW commercial!

McDonald's Needs an Advertising Bailout

Many of you have fallen victim to a subprime coffee

Many of you have fallen victim to a subprime coffee crisis...you're drinking subprime coffee, but still paying $5 a cup! McDonald's is proposing a coffee bailout...thank you, McDonald's, for helping me get back on my feet.

I heard this radio commercial twice today (transcribed as best I can remember) on my way to and from the mall. With Christmas shopping at its peak, everyone is thinking about credit card bills and mortgage payments, so of course a price comparison could be effective. But should McD's really make light of a recession that is costing millions of Americans their homes? Call me hypersensitive, but I think McDonald's is wasting an opportunity to be relevant to penny-pinchers and instead offending actual victims of something larger than a "subprime coffee crisis."

1. They're attacking liberals too
Have you not seen the one with the two guys who are excited that McDonalds has lattes (or mocha or whatever) because they can quit reading books and talk about football. I swear this makes me want to boycott McDonalds more than anything they've ever done.

5. So do it. Boycott them.
Do yourself a favor.

There's nothing worth eating in those places, anyway.

9. I don't eat there anyway
They aren't healthy for sure. But if I were going to find a reason to actually boycott them, this newest set of ads would be it.

11. I suppose since they heard NASCAR is headed down the tubes...
they thought they could pick up some of that market-share.

I have an idea, sandnsea. Let's (the two of us) begin our own personal boycott of McDonald's.

Every time we drive by one of their stores, we can simply flip them off and (real smug-like) say "Screw you, we're boycotting your ass".

Maybe I could have some cards made up. We could be co-Chairpersons of the Committee. We would have to come up with a cool name for the Movement.

I'll get my people to work on that, muy pronto.

2. You expected class and sensitivity from a
corporate giant?

In America?

That said, that commercial is in really poor taste. But, never let it be said that advertising people lacked the gift for latching onto buzz words.

Subprime. Anything to get the potential customer's attention.

Ah, America.......................

7. The advertising world has no shame, nor sense of decorum,
They will say and do ANYTHING, and I mean ANYTHING, to move a product or brand. I fully expect the day to come when they show the application of Preparation H on real people on TV. If there is any industry where regulation is needed, this is it.

10. Do they use fake "creamer" in their coffee? Sure tastes like it. And yes I eat there because....

... most of the time the McDonalds $1 Menus is all I can afford. Two bucks for a McChicken and a side salad. Another buck if I want a small coffee with the fake-tasting cream.

It's either that or local chain of convenience stores that has 6" turkey subs for $1.99 and 2 hot dogs for $1.
