Favorite economists?

In lieu of having academia dominated by cults surrounded in the myth that markets are always better than all alternatives, I'd like to ask of some popular welfare or even socialist economists who you think contributed greatly to your intellectual background? Rawls?

1. I'm a Rawlsian.

I was just re-reading "A Theory of Justice" this week. He was absolutely a huge influence in my thinking, though I'd already formed many strong opinions which were in agreement with his philosophy before I first read ATOJ.

I've been so caught up following the bubble for the past few years, that I haven't spent a lot of time reading theoretical economics. I just posted a paper from Nouriel Roubini, who I think has a good knowledge of macro-economics, but I don't think he writes from a deep political or social perspective.

I also like reading Joseph Stiglitz, though I disagree with a few of his ideas.

I would post more if I had time.
