5. Chinese Yuan (Renminbi) and the Euro.
Either one should do well.

7. The Renminbi maybe.
But China holds so much of our paper, we'd probably take their currency down with ours.

The dollar is still the world's reserve currency for all practical purposes, so its collapse would hammer everything in the short term. There'd be a massive global economic shakeout in which pretty much everything was up for grabs. Who can say what would be left when the dust settled? The Swiss Franc? The Australian Dollar? Yap Stone Money? Conch Shells?

12. China just tracks dollars - to their advantage - not a free
market!

Brazil is attracting alot of attention - may be deserved.

However - I get paid in dollars - and so do you I assume.

If the dollar just goes back to parity with the Euro - just that - fuel, food, most costs - fall in the same ratio.

16. There's no return to conch shells or wampum
although a return to gold- and/or silver-backed money is a possibility if things get too far out of hand.

11. We will be trading, bartering and using a wampum style of currency
it will matter what skills you have and your abiity to be fair with your neighbor. think smaller scale type of global economy. The wave of the future in materialism on that the value system will completely shift.

I truly believe we'll see that kind of post-modern tribal society in times to come. The globe is upheaving too drasticlly and all the systems in place right along with it. hang on for a wild ride, friends.

13. The dollar is weak. It will come back.

No currency is "safe."

Right now, as a nation, we sell our dollars to buy Chinese, Japanese and other currencies so that we can buy the products they sell.

Right now, other nations sell their currency to buy dollars to buy our products.

This is not in balance by a longshot right now.

If the US stops selling dollars because it can't afford to buy the products based on other currencies, the dollars will be exchanged within the USA. Other countries will continue to buy our Boeing jets, our Microsoft software, our Apple iPods, our financial services, our vacation spots, etc. The dollar's demand will increase relative to the other currencies.

What our government should be doing is creating incentives to produce locally and hire locally.

If you feel the dollar is going to go away, you should probably get busy building your compound. However, if you understand that this is cyclical, there are places that you can invest that won't lose their value to inflation and will gain in any condition.

15. None of the above
The US is such a massive share of the global economy still, that if our currency tanks, it will have serious negative effects worldwide.

Contrary to popular opinion, the Chinese wouldn't do well if that happened. They own over $1 trillion in US dollar-denominated debt. They are already not happy about the 40% drop in the value of the dollar - how well do you think they would really fare if this massive stake they hold in our economy became worthless?
