Economist‘s Hog Price Forecast Not Good
Source: Hoosier Ag Today

The end of March brought more bad news for U.S. hog producers.

Ron Plain, University of Missouri economist, forecasts 2008 live hog prices will average near $42 per cwt.-- the lowest since 2003. Unfortunately, costs of production will average record-high near $54 per cwt.

"The result will be a loss of $12 per cwt. or roughly $32 per head, also a record," he cautions.

Monday‘s USDA March Prospective Plantings report predicted 2008 corn acreage would total 86.0 million, down 8.1% from last year. "Fewer corn acres make record high feed costs likely this year," says Plain...

2. I get mine free
as hubby bow hunts. I have become adept at making hams and sausages. I am a bit sick of pork to be honest.

I can't eat mammals myself. I've known too many personally.

7. Hi Lorien
No way! He only hunts what we will eat. Small mammals are off limits to him. There is no way he would go after any of the types of animals I rehab.
The piney woods rooter is way overpopulated in Florida especially down by Lake Okeechobee. It is not a native Florida animal.I think there are over a million of them here. There is no longer much in the way of predators for them. They do a lot of damage to the forest which adversly affects everything from forest vegetation to squirrels, turkey, and deer's access to food.
We eat meat and I can't be a hypocrite and only eat that which is shrink wrapped in the supermarket.

5. I can't eat something that is as intelligent as a dog
and whose production pollutes the environment as much as pork does. There's a good reason why pork is considered "unclean" in so many cultures. x(
