My small company recently made its first sale to Great Britain. In filling out the online shipping form, I "accidentally" marked that we would pay the VAT fees. To my shock and awe I discovered that these were approximately 36% of the invoice amount. How can American manufacurers compete when there are these artificial limits to global competition?
I would have to ask the customer to pay the tariff, which is usually the case. Either way, the added expense makes it difficult to compete, although I suppose Europe may not want the competition?
