Tax drummed out of defaulters


Tax defaulters in India are being forced to face the music after authorities in Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh, hired drummers to play non-stop outside their homes until they pay up. Reuters, Hyderabad

1. How very stupid of the tax authorities

In effect, they are punishing the taxpaying neighbors for the sins of the defaulter. All that does is make the irritated neighbors the sworn enemy of the tax authorities. Sounds rather Rovian, that idea--punish them all, you may just get one guilty one in the process!!!

2. Bagpipes would have been a better choice - and in the US the rich

would not let you near their mansions

and I suspect that is true also in India -

so this is just a dump on small businessmen.

3. I learned to sleep through nocturnal drumming

when I lived in a college area of Boston. It's not hard to do.

My neighborhood has gotten together to bang pots and pans all night outside of drug dealer and gangsta houses to encourage them to move.

That's worked a lot better than drumming does.
