Fundy Alert Part 3: the angry sibling
To understand the trigger of this response see

I sent an e-mail to everyone on the list that got a fundy attack response to my attempt at debunking a lie being passed around - I forgot that my brother was on this list. Before reading his response ... I want you to be aware that the friend of ours who created this list, has been forwarding religious and patriotic propaganda to all since 9/11. I'm not sure how my brother reacts to this propaganda - he may not even read it (I usually don't). My brother and I have a tenuous relationship at best as we are total opposites. I think that statement is true, but can't be sure as he refuses to talk to me about ANYTHING. Apparently, I can't string more than two sentences together without coming across as offensive. You see - he has a deep seeded loathing for me that I can't even begin to understand ... and will probably never have the opportunity to understand. Just a little background - here it is:
_____________________________________________________________________

(my name)
There are 2 things you never discuss openly - politics and religion. You managed to nail both. You'll never get anywhere. You can please some of the people some of the time but you'll never please all of the people all of the
time. The best thing you can do is go to that voting booth on Nov 2nd and vote for the candidate that you want to win. Leave it at that.

I never knew you had these writing skills. Im very impressed.

And I think you know that our political views are different. But I learned along time ago that the only person that really cares what I think, especially on the subjects of politics and religion is me, myself, and I. There are other things in life to be spending your time on other than making sure everyone understands exactly where (my name) stands on the political front.

Put those writing skills to another use!

If you respond to this, please do it in a sentence or less. If you go on another rampage, I wont even read it.

This was my response:

This wasn't for your benefit. I originally responded because I normally take what (fundy friend) sends with a grain ... but this was a blatantly misleading - and I had personally witnessed it. So - partisan or not, I wanted to at least balance what I felt was skewed. I received several responses to my statements ... 4 direct responses, and one that was forwarded to everyone. Not one to back down, I chose to respond accordingly. You can choose to read or not, respond or not ... I sincerely won't take offense. I'm not the one attempting to impose my ideals, perhaps (as you might believe) until now. Even so I will deny that that is my motivation. I have sat here and watched this ridiculousness passed around again and again ... and I have had enough. Politics, and religion for that matter, are dirty business - but unless we strive to maintain some sort of integrity instead of accepting the status quo, and do something to lift it up to a respectable ideal, what is the point? I find it pitiful. I don't particularly care where one stands in the political or religious spectrum - as long as one may back up their beliefs with intelligent discourse. A little hard nosed, I realize. But I can only take so much willful ignorance before I feel the need to act out against it. I whole heartedly support one's right to disagree, and I would certainly extend that to you. It is your claim that I will never get anywhere ... I beg to differ. You see ... it is not imposing belief that I find effective, but drawing attention to flawed rationale. I am not stating that my beliefs are so in my questioning of "(fundy woman)". I am, however, tired of the "baby killer" line. Killing is a sin, right? Did I miss the great varying degree lesson in school? I would just like some clarification. Hell, I might even agree.

I know we don't share the same opinions or perhaps even beliefs ... but it doesn't make me respect you any less. I'm going to assume that you are being protective ... because the alternative is too depressing to consider.

_____________________________________________________________________

This is seriously such a load of shit ... I think my brother is an ethical guy (if an asshole) and he manages my investments. I think I trust him to do what is in my best interest ... and I know nothing of financial/economic matters (he is very good at what he does, has made my mother a fortune). He has an economics degree - I have a psych degree. I don't want to be beholden to to him, but I don't want to shoot myself in the foot either... I'm not completely self sufficient.
