To make your bones with the conservatives, you really do have to torture and kill innocent people, or at least support policies that will inevitably result in the suffering and deaths of innocent people. That so many have not only abandoned the Golden Rule, but want to insist that God told them to do it, would be incomprehensible to anyone not familiar with the history of fascism.
