US attacks ALP troop exit plan
06:01 AEST Fri Jun 4 2004

"United States President George W Bush launched a blistering attack on Labor's plan to withdraw Australian troops from Iraq by Christmas, saying the move would be disastrous and would encourage more violence.

Mr Bush's comments came after talks at the White House with Prime Minister John Howard over the future of Iraq and the move to hand over power in Iraq to an interim authority from June 30.

The president made it clear he was not impressed with Opposition Leader Mark Latham's promise to bring Australia's 850 personnel home from Iraq by Christmas if Labor wins the coming federal election.

In an unprecedented attack, Mr Bush told reporters the early withdrawal of troops would hurt those who wanted freedom in Iraq.

Asked directly about the implications of Mr Latham's plan, Mr Bush said: "I think that would be disastrous.

"It would be disastrous for the leader of a great country like Australia to say that we're pulling out."

2. Remember, we didn't elect him
We had him forced on us by massive corruption in the state his brother heads, plus collusion by a corrupt and partisan supreme court. Please don't blame the American people for this walking disaster. We had little to say about his selection.

We are all just hoping he will respect the election this time, and that the circumstances are at least marginally fair. We are terribly afraid that a man who was willing to trash so much of this country to grab power will not relinquish it at the behest of the rabble.

6. Dubya and Jebbie
didn't play fair the last time (2000)-what makes anyone think it'll be different this time? Remember, ol' Jeb is STILL gov of Fla, and Daddy refers to him as "the smart one".

8. We didn't elect him either.
Five justices of our Supreme Court did that. We do have to take the blame for letting him get close enough to steal the rest.

10. I so appreciate your remarks.
I came out of a time wasting debate with someone who is using sophistry and rhetoric to legitimize Bushs' appointment to the presidency .
I share and agree with your observations.

I am still baffeled on why we let this happen.

When IS your federal election, anyway? We'll cheer this bloke Latham on.

7. Come November, "when the gunsmoke settles. . ."
we'll sing a victory tune,
and we'll all meet back in the local saloon.
We'll raise up our glasses against evil forces,
Whiskey for my men, beer for my horses..."

9. I don't think it will be later than October.
If Bush loses in November (or should I say *when* Bush loses), the
fallout would be bad for Howard.

He'll go early.

11. Will anyone feel sorry for him ?
If Bush goes down, the suction may well claim Tony Blair too.
By what right does OUR moron weigh into YOUR politics?

This kind of thing tends to backfire.
