Wingnuts at Free Republic go ape@!& over Elton John's new son
Alvin McEwen compiles on his blog Holy Bullies and Headless Monsters some of the "more polite" comments by Freepers upset over gay British singer Elton John having a baby. I choose not to quote any because I feel that you've heard the "gays are deviant/homosexuality is not a family value" drumbeat over and over again for as long as you've paid attention to politics and that I don't want to upset your New Year's Eve.

McEwen comments:

In the long run, the folks on Free Republic are a bunch of sad creatures who can't cause any harm except probably to their fingers with the enormity of nonsense they type.

They are a perfect example that unfortunately in some circles, homophobia will always exist just like racism and other forms of prejudice will always exist. We will probably never conquer it.

1. Are they jealous that Elton will be leaving most of his wealth to the son
and not to them?

4. Well, I have mixed feelings about Elton John having a child at age 61.
Only because my parents were older (40's) when I was born, and I was much younger than my siblings. It was kind of hard having parents who acted more like grandparents, and were no longer enthusiastic about life. It was especially hard on me as a teenager, when I was alone in the house with them, and their idea of a good time was falling asleep in front of the television by 7:00 each evening.

But, Elton's husband is much younger than he is, I believe, so that should help, and, Elton John probably doesn't lead the same lifestyle as a suburban middle class couple, either.

As far as the freepers go, well, stupid is as stupid does. And, if they're too stupid to recognize that gay marriage and family life only strengthens our society, the loss is theirs, IMHO.

6. That's what I was thinking, too
This child is going to become an adult at a time when Elton John may be about to leave the scene.

I guess it's no worse than some balding old executive type having kids with his trophy wife.

7. I would normally agree with you
but I just saw Elton John in a concert about a month ago. There is nothing but energy there. If he can do that night after night in a concert he will be able to sum up the energy at home when he is not doing it. I am younger and I would be hard put to do what he was doing for 30 minutes and he just went on and on and on. He is also staying young just by the nature of his business, not much passes him by that he is not eager to look into.

Now, I don't know the guy but have seen a lot of concerts by people his age that have been pretty staid and unenthusiastic. I was impressed.

8. It is a little self-indulgent of him.
But you can't argue that he can't provide for the kid.

5. Funny - that is one of the first thing that went through my mind when I saw

the announcement - I bet this will really piss some people off! Elton does not seem to mind doing that from time to time, though.
My best wishes to them, long and happy life.
