RFID, Consumer Roundtable (News Conference)
Tuesday, April 27, 2004
Description: Philips Electronics and The National Retail Federation are hosting a panel discussion of industry leaders from the retail, technology, consumer advocacy, and government sectors to discuss issues relating to consumer use of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology.

RFID has jumped into the public spotlight due to plans by the country’s leading retailers as well as the Department of Defense to use it to track inventory in the warehouse and distribution chain. Because RFID holds the potential to track individual items that consumers purchase, it has created concerns among privacy groups about possible misuse and intrusion into data privacy.
...
Panelists for the session, to be moderated by IDC’s Chris Boone, include:

• Jarrett Barrios, Massachusetts State Senator
• Sean Campbell, Partner and Worldwide RFID Leader, Distribution Sector, IBM Business Consulting Services
• Scott McGregor, President and CEO, Philips Semiconductors
• Lee Tien, Senior Staff Attorney, Electronic Frontier Foundation
• Richard Varn, Technology Policy Advisor, National Retail Federation
