AMANDA: BRITISH TV IS A DISGRACE
By Nicola Methven, Tv Editor

ACTRESS Amanda Redman has accused reality shows of ruining British television.

She wants programmes such as Big Brother, The Salon and Driving School to be banned.

The At Home with the Braithwaites star said: "They make me so bloody angry. British television is in a really disgraceful state.

"It is pandering to the lowest common denominator. I believe that if the audiences were given better stuff, they'd watch it."

2. Everyone expects the U.S. TV to be trashy.
The British have tried to stay above the fray. The certainly have superior comedy shows.

5. U.S. tv takes a lot of the Brit shows....
and "retools" them for consumption here.

4. Extreme makeover
is the worst thing I've ever heard of. Mutilation as entertainment.
In the future, they'll be asking about us what they asked about the Germans, "How did they all sit back and let that happen?"
We were too busy watching facelifts and tooth venneers being done on "undesirables" to give a shit what was being done in our name. That should be a good enough excuse, right?

There are plenty of decent shows on in the UK. I absolutely loved the specials on Iraq that were on BBC1 and BBC2 during primetime hours. There was also a fantastic documentary on Bush's 2000 election campaign.

The news by far is much more intelligent as well. BBC and Channel 4 news manages to give the news without big flashy banners and logos and bright big headlines and general dumbing down of the news. The news and documentaries and specials by far make up for the reality tv.
