Air America Radio begins airlifting Progressive talk tomorrow

>>On March 31, 2004 Air America Radio begins airlifting entertaining, progressive talk radio to millions of Americans who for far too long have been and are being neglected by talk radio broadcasters today.
Our on-air personalities and guests represent today's top political and popular humorists, commentators, activists and analysts.
Our irreverent, informative programming sparks the kind of challenging political and social dialogue that has been absent from AM radio for years.
Our programs will mix provocative conversation, challenging interviews and biting political satire.

Air America Radio has signed actress and comedienne Janeane Garofalo, hip hop icon Chuck D, radio personality Randi Rhodes, and political humorist Sam Seder to join Franken at the network. Environmental activist Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., “The Daily Show” co-creator Lizz Winstead, and business-of-the-media analyst on the public radio program “Marketplace” Martin Kaplan will also join the network.
“Air America Radio will be available immediately in top markets across the country, and our distribution channels will continue to expand in the coming months via affiliation agreements with partner stations across the land,” said Air America Radio President Jon Sinton.
Air America Radio will debut its programming on radio stations WLIB (AM 1190am) in New York, WNTD (AM 950) in Chicago and KBLA (AM 1580) in Los Angeles and a station in San Francisco to be named before launch.<<

3. Hopefully advertisers will start jumping on board -
that is really the only way to get market growth. I am afraid that anything that is partially/predominantly self-funded will have a short shelf life. No matter the intentions, long-term financial loss is tough to take...

8. I thought there was going to be a web feed?!
I'm getting worried now.

I'm in Columbus, OH with no possible way to tune in.

I was sure I had heard more than once that there was also going to be a live streaming web feed - but it's less than 12 hours before they kick off and there is ZERO indication of this on the website.

Anyone know anything?

Am I about to have my day ruined?

9. funds
Pls tell me why it HAS to be advertiser funded.

I see little local churches buy air time.. churches in poor ethnic areas with only tambourine and piano to back up voices as music.
PBS uses fundraiser weeks.
Why not AA?

aflcio should donate as a way to get better prolabor laws.

The dem party itself ought to raise funds dedicated to AA. Should have had its own station since 1935 campaign for FDR.

11. RealAudio needed
Pls tell AA, anyone who knows them, that most webfeeds ignore the format used by the millions..literally millions have bought it... who have webtv.

We use only RealAudio format... downloads of other do not work, as we just do not do downloads.

I anticipate AA will also ignore our format.. just guessing. but sad experience says they will ignore us. Meria Heller isonly good show that we get online.

Even DU ignored my plea that they tell webtv users that this new Forum software is all BLACK PAGE to us, unless we figure out by guesswork that we can see forums by SHIFT AND ARROWS TOGETHER.

Anyone at DU want to put a note on homepage telling other webtv users?

I love DU so much, hate to see it locked away from 99% of us with webtv. We are millions, mostly middle class dems.

12. 950 "Stunting" in Chicago
The station's playing lots of different music (typical format change "rollout")...just heard Quicksilver's "Fresh Air"...

The stations I know of...

New York - 1190AM - WLIB...Heard through most of NYC area and east seaboard (with noise) at night (as far south as DelMarVa)

Chicago - 950AM - Daytime heard throughout Chicago (antenna atop an old warehouse on the near west side)...Nighttime in the city only...shoots it signal from the Ill-Ind. border right up Lake Michigan (the zebra muscles should hear things just fine)...really noisy in the burbs.

Los Angeles - 1580AM - 50kw watts...that's the good news...pointed right at Pago Pago...that's the bad news. Heard fine throughout the LA basin...can be a real problem south of Orange and North of San Fernando and anywhere east of Riverside. Nighttime even smaller coverage area.

Supposedly programming also on

620AM in Portland (heard also in Seattle and, if the rain blows right, up to Vancouver) during the day. (Selected programs)

Also have heard the San Francisco affiliate is supposed to be 860AM and 1360AM in Miami. No recent info on either...but Randi Rhodes will still be heard on WJNO in Palm Beach. Rumor also has a Minneapolis and DC affiliates to be named in the next month.

Hope this is useful
