David Brudnoy is my favorite Right Wing Radio Host, but he’s RW!

After a great review with Philip Heyman on his book "Terrorism, Freedom and Security", where the former Deputy Attorney General of the United States argues that we must preserve our civil liberties and democratic values while fighting terrorism, David’s next shows were:

(1.) An interview with Robert Spencer on his anti-Islam book "Onward Muslim Soldier" - Why global jihad is still the greatest threat to our civilization -- and what we must do to stop it where he said we've won victories in Iraq and Afghanistan, but now is no time to rest on our laurels - jihad terrorism is still a potent threat to our nation and the world and has numerous footholds right here in the U.S. as well as in Europe - “radical” Muslims' have an open contempt for our free society and they have plan’s to destroy it, and the Islamic community in the U.S. has failed to disavow terrorism and condemn the 9/11 attacks with a clear voice - why? The “myth” of "Islamic tolerance" is based on half-truths and distortions about jihad concocted by American Muslim groups who hide the fact that the traditional Islamic concept of jihad does sanction -- even require -- violence against non-Muslims -. Truths about radical Islam are that jihad is not a spiritual struggle -Muslims must wage physical war against non-Muslims so that Iraqi democracy will have a tough time no matter how long American troops stay in the country – indeed “We are not Americans. We are Muslims." And the open hatred that many American Muslim spokesmen display for their native land means monitoring mosques is essential to our national security today -- and not a violation of anyone's civil rights · Indeed Islam has already begun to erode the West’s centuries-old commitment to secularism, free inquiry, and open societies -"I want to see the black flag of Islam flying over Downing Street": said a influential British Muslim leader - "tolerant" Muslim is more fiction than fact -Hassan al-Banna, Sayyid Qutb, Sayyid Abul A'la Maududi and Abdullah Azzam: the outrageous teachings of the intellectual godfathers of radical Islam and note the chilling choices that the Qur'an and the Prophet Muhammad offer non-Muslims -"Dhimmitude": the Islamic institution that challenges the principle that all men are created equal · How non-Muslims in Muslim societies still suffer today under a system of legalized oppression that flows from the theology of jihad.

And (2), Carnes Lord’s book "The Modern Prince" What Machiavelli Can Still Teach Us Where he borrows from Plato and Aristotle and warns that 'the people' can be a fickle lot and that often their will and the rule of law are at odds with each other. So we temper the passions of the people by resorting to representative rather than direct democracy, where we have an obligation on our elected leaders to not merely to follow public opinion but to shape it –a call to action, much as Machiavelli's original was an exhortation to the Medici princes to drive out the 'barbarians' and unify Italy, but also an attempt to re-create Machiavelli's handbook in modern form and to place its lessons, together with some new ones, in our age.

Still he is the only interesting RW talk show that I know of! And he does have a slight right/left fair and balanced approach!

David Brudnoy Monday through Friday on WBZ NewsRadio 1030 at 7pm until 10pm

1. Can't stand him ...
First, he'll tell you he's not RW, he's a Libertarian - only they read Reason magazibe.

When he returned on the air is when I started listening to him. He went on and on calling Janet Reno "The Butcher of Waco" and said "her actions need to be avenged" (his words).

Then OKC happens, and he goes on the anit-"Bubba" rants about free speech and such. Granted, his words didn't trigger the event, but it's rant like that that make them happen.

While I've never met him personally, we travel in similar circles (both gay). And the people who met him are completely put off by him. He's a "your opinion doesn't matter unless you agree me me" person and you should be honored that I'm talking to you.

Screw him.

3. He is a 20+ yr WBZ who became harsher after getting AIDS - but
he is erudite - indeed he and Jay are more educated the rest of the RW crowd, but I have given up on Jay as he has been unable to turn off the flow of RW buzz words of late.

I agree he is a snob -"prof at Boston University and in my courses..."

And the Bubba rants had me turning him off for months at a time.

But his interviews tend to be interesting - at least in my opinion.

And the above books this week made for a very interesting listen - although I admit I only stayed for the whole program interview in the case of the Philip Heyman "preserve our civil liberties and democratic values while fighting terrorism" discussion. The others were too predictable.

4. Jay SEVERIN? What a dickweed!
This guy's a total fraud. His veneer of phony erudition can't disguise the simplistic nature of his positions. And he calls his listener/sheep "the Best and the Brightest" without a trace of irony.
But give him his due, he was way ahead of Rummy and the boys on Iraq. Two years ago today he was urging the NUKING of Baghdad.
And he's obviously quite the ladies' man. :puke:

2. I used to listen to him
but gave it up when he went more-intelligent-than-thou on a caller who disagreed with his politics.

Still, I'm grateful that he turned me on to Ben Bova.
