Some time ago it was revealed that one of this country's most closely guarded secrets (as in, "should have been") was revealed (sold) by Chalabi to the Iranians.
He could only have gotten this information from one of the "neos" in the administration -- possibly a person who should not even have had it. Besides revealing the macho, posturing, heedless, "information-is-power-and-I-am-a-big-man" nature of this administration, this is pretty clearly treason. While a macho buzz was all the reward that the person revealing this secret to Chalabi seems to have gotten (although one wonders), this does not diminish the terrible nature of the crime -- or the harm done to this country's interests.
But the story sure seems to have followed all the other stories about this administration's crimes and malfeasances to the trashbin.
Is our mass media that dysfunctional --- or are all the major players just too cowardly, weak and soft to do anything --- or are they being actually threatened?
I am guessing that most players, at least those who aren't out-and-out flunkies, are just too scared, because life is sweet for them and they have a lot to lose. But I wouldn't be surprised if they were being directly threatened --- it would be like the neos, both inside of and outside of the government.
Perhaps some day we will learn the truth, but then again, they would probably rather just forget about it. Talking about one's failures and cowardice is never a flattering conversation, and, after all, most of what they have to sell is simply their image. This won't be quite so attractive if their story gets (truthfully) told.
