Gore's political future
Could he be setting himself up for a high level office in Dean's administration (possibly secretary of state) and then a run for president in 2012 with this endorsement?

Or if Dean loses, he runs against Hillary in 2008 from the left, with the backing of Dean and company cause they will feel indebted to him?

3. I think Gore will be "stale" in 2012
2000 is not going to be fresh in many minds. It will have been 12 years since holding any office of consequence (I doubt he'll get anything in Dean's cabinet). I wouldn't expect him to have any sort of resonance with young voters....they'll have all been 6-10 years old when he was in the public eye in a major way.

Note, I'm referring to Gore's political history as a benefit/liability...not whether he'll have a good platform or not if he did decide to run.

4. If Dean loses, how will it affect Gore in 2008?
Will having endorsed Dean mean anything then?

Will he be able to say, "I guess a centrist was too far 'right?'"

More likely, I guess, he thinks Dean will win (I'm not so sure), and he wants to poke the DLC (a little bit).

5. The only way that Gore will be the nominee in 2012
is if the ticket is Howard Dean/Bob Graham and Gore is Sec. of State or Atty. General. Graham won't run in 2012, so Gore would once again be a frontrunner, though he'll have to fight for the nomination.

6. I felt obligated to support Gore because he was VP.
I was relieved to see him gone so that we could have options that were closer to what I thought matched the Democratic mood of America.

7. Gore damaged his future back in 2000.....
when he went on about "The good of the country" when refusing to play hard ball like the BFEE was. Look where that got us. His premature endorsement, before any votes are cast, rubs me the wrong way as well. By the time 2008 rolls around he will be old news.

He had his chance and he wimped out. He was a better than average VP and I had high hopes for his Presidency but he backed off and let the election be stolen. It never should have even been close enough to steal. His lackadasical campaigning in the 2000 race enabled the vote to be close thereby enabling the BFEE to steal it out from right under his nose. It was his to lose, that is is precisely what he did.

I wish him the best...I just think his political days are over.
