Democrat handlers rein in Mrs Kerry, the campaign's unguided missile
From the Independent (UK):

By Rupert Cornwell in Washington

26 July 2003

John Kerry, the Democrat Senator from Massachusetts, would bring many things to the White House should he win the 2004 presidential election: sharp-end experience of war from Vietnam, a deep knowledge of public policy, and an abiding interest in foreign affairs. But most intriguing of all, he would also bring his wife.

There have been several notable First Ladies in modern times: Eleanor Roosevelt, Rosalynn Carter and Hillary Clinton, to name but three. But in terms of speaking their minds, none can hold a candle to Teresa Heinz Kerry.

1. and she's a problem because...
she dares to speak her mind?
time for fundies to get lives!
they could start by respecting the body that bore them!

2. I just love her!
"Jest or otherwise, this most definitely is not First Lady talk. Should her husband win the nomination and then the White House, do not expect a Pat Nixon or Laura Bush, gazing in frozen adoration as their spouse delivers a speech they have heard a hundred times. Indeed, Ms Heinz Kerry once called the prospect of living in the White House "worse than going to a Carmelite convent".

"In one sense, Ms Heinz Kerry is well suited for the First Lady's role, with its traditional focus on good deeds. She runs the $1bn Heinz philanthropic endowment, and has won awards for her humanitarian work. She is also an environmental activist indeed, she first got to know her current husband at the 1992 Earth Summit in Rio, to which both were delegates."

3. not quite the ideal first lady
... after all, as far as we know, unlike Laura Bush (the perfect first lady), Teresa Heinz Kerry has no vehicular manslaughters under her belt.

4. No, Ken Lay sat on the board of her environmental charities
for years and she gets botux treatments. A real role model.

8. Your point escapes me.
Your points escape me. Are you saying that if Ken Lay is involved with a charity that everyone else involved in that charity is somehow guilty by association of his misdeeds? Is there something evil or wrong about having botux treatments?

12. Just to raise a litle dust
http://www.nonprofitwatch.org/heinz/extended.html

Kind of ties the hands in going after old Kenny Boy.

Let's see...we should move on and not cry in our tea cups over the stolen election, and it would be so much easier, if we, as Clinton suggested, could just stop focusing on the questions and doubts surrounding the Iraq invasion, and now these cumbersome corporate ties, hmm, well the statue of limitations should be up by that time anyway...

9. That's all you've got?
Ken Lay was all over the place until it wasn't useful to be a public figure. Bet he was on a lot of boards. We know he was a Bush family pal. So what if he was on the board of her charity? He still had a reputation a short time ago. Are you suggesting that she knew what he was up to and THEN put him on a board?

Botox treatments? So? I wouldn't do it, but I don't care if others do. Bet she dyes her hair and wears makeup, too. Yeah, she cares about her looks. Wow. Disqualifies her as a role model.

11. Many Mafia thugs were good church goers...
Edited on Wed Jul-30-03 12:19 PM by blm
but no one blamed the church.

Alot of corporate creeps use the mask of charitable work to hide their thug tendencies.

Just like some centrist governors wear liberal masks to collect big $$$$ from the naive.

6. Loose Cannon My a**!
When will they learn that we like independent women with their own lives and own goals?

The more these idiots start smearing the competition, the closer I look at the issues.

It's the 21st century, and more and more of us are really turned off by insipid First Stpeford Ladies when there are serious issues like wars, and poverty, and hunger to deal with.

Sheesh, talk about tacky, childish tactics.

15. What got me was that Kerry couldn't bother to show up for
the recent black conference, but Mrs. Kerry gave a reception(PRIVATE) for the board members. Says something about both of them, elitists, anyone?
