Andy Griffith???Bob Graham editorial in Cheyenne
Edited on Tue Jul-22-03 08:52 PM by TheReligiousLeft
Bob wrote a great editorial that got published in Cheyenne's paper today. I really think Graham will play well with middle America. He knows the language of the midwest. I have talked to some of the more conservitive people here in Cheyenne and they say "he's kind of like Andy Griffith" (Don't ask me, Black and White TV is a legend to me.) What that means is beyond me, but if that makes them vote for him good!

1. Hmm . . .
Andy Griffith & Bob Graham similar?

I must say that watching Bob stroll alongside the railroad in New Hampshire, humming and whistling, (shown on CSPAN this past Sunday nite) there was a little bit of that sorta country flavor! But IMO that's what people want in politicians, the "average guy" factor. When he's on TV talk programs, he's all Presidential, and then when he is off the air, he is actually not so political all the time. And now he attends bluegrass concerts and NASCAR events! Believe me, that is NOT my idea of fun as a city person, but it does succeed in making Senator Graham more down-to-earth.

2. Would like to read it. Is there a link?
BTW, Andy Griffith played a TV sheriff from "Mayberry", North Carolina, who had a squirrely, accident-prone deputy named Barney Fife (Don Knotts). Ron Howard played Andy's son Opie, and they lived with Andy's Aunt Bea.

Everyone loved Sheriff Andy Taylor.

Truly a classic! LOL. (Andy Griffith also played in "Matlock" on TV.)

5. Thanks!
Yes, and Sheriff Andy Taylor was as good as his word and a gentleman to everyone he met.

We need to swear Bob in and give him a star!

3. Graham could make serious inroads on the midwest/south
I believe he could. Bush claims to be "one of them" but he isn't. And I think they know it, underneath. Bush's "ranch" is such a fake, and he looks like a smart-*ss city boy in spite of the affected drawl and cowboy boots and hat.

Graham looks like, and is, the real thing to these rural and small town people. As I've said in other threads, I come from a Texas farming family, and they would instantly recognize Graham as one of their own. He talks right, he acts right. There's nothing fake about him; he's like your wise old uncle who has just the right saying for the moment.

The Andy Griffith reference is quite apropos. I hadn't thought of it. Andy played a quiet, clever and rock-solid small-town sheriff, played off against the comical attempts at heroics of his deputy Barney Fife. Barney was a small skinny guy with delusions of grandeur, who always pumped himself up and bragged and got everybody in trouble by trying to save the day.

Really, quite an appropriate comparison! Graham=Andy Griffiths, Bush=Barney Fife!

LOL!

6. Wow, Bush Graham has been predicted, and in Black and White!
Hmmm... Bush as this Fife fellow. I like the sound of that. Was there an evil Cheneyish person in the show as well per chance? When I get back to the dorms I'll have TV and I'll look for this show.
Thanks for the information!
