Rolling With People-Powered Howard (LA Weekly)

The most impressive thing about Howard Dean, and what seems genuinely to distinguish him from his fellow candidates, is his ability to think in three dimensions, to connect disparate ideas and concepts and problems in a remarkably intelligent and compelling way.

3. Very good article!
There is one quote that bothers me a little...

"I mean, we’ve already got 39,000 people working for us all around the country . . . I really do believe — and I think about this — I want to get this nomination, and if I don’t . . . these kids are not transferrable. I can’t just go out and say, ‘Okay, so I didn’t win the nomination, so go ahead and vote for the Democrats.’ They’re not going to suddenly just go away. That’s not gonna happen.”

Anyone know if Dean has committed to not run as an Independent if he doesn't get the nomination? If he hasn't, I hope to hear that from him soon.

4. On Larry King Live..
Dean said that he'd support the Democrats' nominee because Bush absolutely MUST go. He sounded very adamant about this.

5. Yeah, there's interesting quotes like that all over the article.
I think he's talking about feeling personnaly responsible for the people that support him. I think he sees how lucky his campaign has been and doesn't want to let people down. I think it's about the connection he feels, but I could be wrong. Interesting.

He has said he will not run Indy and will support the Dem nominee.

9. You're going to get in trouble for "parsing" his words
:)

I didn't really know what to make of that quote. Here's my attempt:

I think that in addition to trying to win Democratic voters, he's also trying to bring in people from the 50% of the electorate who don't vote. And even if he tells those people to vote for the nominee if he loses, he cannot vouch for them staying in the party if he's not the nominee.

6. Yes, he has committed not to run as an Independent
But what he says is equally true for all ardent supporters of particular candidates - their disappointment will be real if their candidate doesn't get the nomination. Dean has committed to back the nominee, however.

7. Independent run
Howard has promised to support whoever the Democratic nominee is, No equivication. However as a supporter I may not be able to support certain candidates if the governor is not the nominee. Oh my god, what am I saying. ANY ONE BUT BUSH!!!!!

16. Great nutshell on the IWR:
Despite repeated portrayals of him as an obstreperous, angry peacenik, his opposition from the start was specific and sober, expressed as distrust of the hasty rush to military action and a call for a more measured weighing of factors.
