Jim Jeffords VP?
Would Jim make a good VP? He might catch some moderate republicans. He could go out there and preach that the lesser Bush isn't a republican, but an evil man. Just thinking, geographically he isn't much of a help, but his message could rock the republican base, maybe create something called Jeffords republicans (think Raygun Democrats). Just a thought.

1. Name recognition
I forgot that, it would be another possitive for Jim Jeffords.

2. I'd agree, but I'm a Dean supporter
and the President and VP can't be from the same state. Now if someone else gets the nomination it would be a good move. The only problem is it would mobilize the GOP base against the ticket.

3. Base
I'm not so sure of that. I think Jeffords represents at least the freethinking wing of the Republican party. I guess I'd like a Paulean conversion story for the 2004 election. Of course if I really wanted a persecuter I'd have to ask for Lott or someone as VP. Maybe Jeffords and Mc Cain could run as 3rd party, and take away votes from the Lesser Bush, kind of like Ross "the Ears" Perrot.

4. Exactly...
...and since Jeffords is also endorsing Dean, being on someone else's ticket isn't really an option either.

You are right. I guess that won't work quite so well. Although here is an alternitive.

6. It's unconstitutional
Because Dean is going to be the nominee (I hope!) and the president and VP can't be from the same state. And he probably could not do what Cheney did and register in another state, because he is a sitting senator, and his family has lived in Vermont for generations so I doubt he would anyway.

7. It's Not Unconstitutional
12th Amendment: The electors shall meet in their respective states and vote by ballot for President and Vice-President, one of whom, at least, shall not be an inhabitant of the same state with themselves...

So only Vermont electors would be effected in a Dean-Jeffords ticket. I don't think it would happen politically, but the net effect is that only 3 electoral votes would not be able to be cast for Jeffords. This would matter only in a close race.

8. Speaking of which
I have been wondering for a while: how does the superdelegate process work? Is it just that each state gets a certain amount of delegates and then they also send their Congressmen and Senators as superdelegates?

If that is how it works, how many superdelegates will Vermont get?
