A Heaping Smorgasbord of Democrats
http://www.commondreams.org/views03/0827-10.htm

Well, I am not so sure the title is not a bit tongue in cheek, but, to follow up the article I posted earlier, here's another one...

Flame bait for as$holes, discussion topic for those of interested in communicating about politics rather than egotistical chest beating and puerile gotcha games.

1. I've really nothing to add
as the article states my sentiments quite well. I think the word "Smorgabord" is apt with the current field of 9. There's basically someone for all political points of view. I think we have an EXCELLENT field this time.

3. Excellent article
snip--

"Meanwhile, Kucinich is out on the stump articulating things that Democrats need to hear. Democrats aren’t a slightly more liberal version of Republicans. They invented the social programs that make for a compassionate, civilized society!"

snip---
"Here’s our current line-up: old, young, male, female, Jewish, religious, agnostic, doctor, minister, war hero, rich, middle-class, working-class, African-American, white, northern, southern, conservative, liberal—hey, it looks like America!"

"And on the Republican team: one middle-aged, white, right-wing, failed businessman—born to a life of privilege, a wastrel in his youth, AWOL from the National Guard when his compatriots were dying in Vietnam—who has completely mucked up every area of executive responsibility"

4. This article should be paired with the other
Common Dreams article that I posted "the case against the case against the case against Dean..."

This article is what I mean about "growing up".

Each and every one of us has a favorite for the nomination...

Fine.

Stop the internecine squabbling.

If we are exposing our candidates' negatives for the purpose of airing them, answering them, preparing for the airing of those same negatives by the GOP filth machine...then we should be doing so explicitly.

But we should not be creating false negatives or spinning stories to imply negatives or rumour mongering or highlighting the screeds penned by the extremist right, extremist left, ideologically straightjacketed single issue camps, and so on and so forth.

I propose that we set out to research each and every negative for each and every candidate in a specific, focused, and targeted manner...

Air the story, find the cites, find the bills, laws, votes, and records...and then dispense with that story, show how the negative is not that big a deal..and finally (and most importantly) develop a "one liner" rebuttal to that rumor that is suitable -- a "media zinger" that the candidate or campaign in question can use to turn the attack on its head.

There are enough of us here that are active in each and every campaign to do this...and it is important. Much more important than intra-Party partisan sniping.

What do you suggest? Perhaps folks should post threads cheering on their own candidates and only fellow travelers need participate in the thread? It is politics after all, not a discussion of the best pizza in town.

Sometimes there is no easy way to discuss issues people have emotional investments in---religion and politics should never be discussed in a bar, so they say, and often well-meaning attempts at civility and bi-partisan ship mask unpleasant truths.

The truth is politics is a dirty game, toes get stepped on, lines get drawn, and the stakes are high...Your highmindedness is admirable, but is an appeal for saint-like behavior from mere mortals. ;-)

7. On one of your buddy's threads-
A certain Prof P, territorial over his small fly speck of the bandwidth, and parolling it with proper hallway monitor disciplinary skills, would seem to suggest that such good natured ribbing between competing campaigns and self depricating humor is not in keeping with proper protocol.

Any new pin-ups lately from the Kerry the Dreamboy team :loveya:?

And since I don't take it all that seriously, specifically me, in the utmost sincerity, I leave you with ;-)

9. He looks like he is selling cadillacs
She, however, strikes an errie resemblence to my mother in that shot--all the way to the forelock.

Must fly, have a good one.
