Am I the only one???
So, I watched most of the debate last night.. for shits & giggles plus I like to stay informed. I come into the office today prepared to ask all the idiot CONservatives what they thought... and NONE of them watched it. NO ONE, I have decided to ask every person I speak to today whether they watched it, I don't expect to come across anyone because the ones I've asked are the ones that pretend to be politically savvy.

I live in RED country PA, and these people will be voting for whomever has the R behind their name.. it's pathetic to be so uninformed about YOUR candidates - it just bothers me to no end.. This may be an obvious question, but I'd like to get the feel from other Libs/progressive around the country how informed their Repub counterparts are - is it just me??

1. I'll bet they did watch, were very disappointed and don't want to
give you the satisfaction or get into any debates since they have no answers. Just speculating but if they are as politically savvy as you suggest, you just know they watched...LOL.

2. for one thing MSNBC is usually an extra on most cable systems
I think we had to go to level 2 on DISH to get it. So I doubt they would pay extra for a 'librul' channel. Nor would they probably watch ANYTHING on that 'librul' channel.

3. Interesting. Watching debates just doesn't seem to be a popular
activity on the right. In the current case, there are too many participants to really call what happened last night a debate. It was more like a serial soundbite forum, where each candidate got to say a few words about why Obama is bad and why each candidate is a good choice. That's not a debate.

The right doesn't listen to this crap because most of them depend on others to tell them who the "right" candidate is. Right now, Perry is the current darling of the right. That could change at any moment, and probably will. The actual leading contender is Mitt Romney, but he's not a favorite of the tea party, so they're simply ignoring him.

The unknown quantity is Sarah Palin. If she chooses to enter the race, a lot of the tea party crowd will switch over to supporting her, for all the good that will do. So, nobody bothered to watch because this debate is essentially meaningless for guessing which candidate will end up with the nomination. Can Romney pull it off, or have the tea party illiterates established a large enough base to prevent that? Or, will whoever is the current darling of the right at the time of the convention win the dubious honor of losing another Presidential election.

I didn't watch the debate either, except for about 15 minutes in the middle of it. I did get to see Michele Bachmann make a fool of herself briefly. She's done. She can't raise money any more, her staff has abandoned her, and she'll be dropping out shortly.

The only real question left is whether Caribou Barbie will declare her candidacy. If not, then it's between Perry and Romney, and I have no idea which will prevail. So, there's no real reason to have watched this debate.

9. All good reasons for YOU not to watch..
but the Repubs have been dying for 2.5+ years for this. If the shoe was on the other foot and this was a Democratic Party debate and there was a McCain type in office - wouldn't the base at least be watching?

Add to that the whole Prez Obama rescheduling hullabaloo, they must have been feeling at least a little bit cocky.. I don't know, I find it odd. And it only feeds the "this is my team" stereotype in politics, and it worries me a little bit.

The divisions are only becoming more stark, who can with a straight face call themselves an Independent this day and age? And I don't mean it by party affiliation but by political ideology..

10. Most run-of-the-constituency Republican voters are just waiting
to see who emerges. They're just not that interested, any more than most Democratic voters are interested in what the pundits on random websites are saying about Obama. That's just reality.

4. 50/50
I only work with 2 righties, and will not associate outside of business settings with any right-wingers...so they're the only ones I deal with on a regular basis. Of the two, one tries to stay informed and can hold intelligent discussions. The other would go to the Atlantic coast to watch the sunset if Rush or Sean claimed the sun rises in the west. Personally I think they're both dumb anyway, because only an idiot would vote for a republican...unless of course you are ultra rich and hate America.

5. You might be!
The thing about conservatives is, once they've got their minds made up, they don't want to be challenged with pesky facts. They have their candidate and that's that.

Often, they choose their candidate based on a single issue, or a prejudice. It's a silly trait but one I have seen repeated, over and over, down the years.

6. AND they await the dog whistle from one of their media gurus...Rush, Hannity, et. al. Then
they don't use up any gray matter making a decision.

8. Yep.
Then, they're told why to like the idiot, and given a few heartwarming bits of fiction to repeat, ad nauseum, to humanize the creature.

7. The non-elite GOP'ers fall into two categories, those who
think being liberal means believing in welfare for those who don't work, and they don't want to pay for it because they do work, and then there are the gun-toters who are afraid some librul will take their gun away....yes,indeed, they can't afford GOP beliefs, and they are ill-informed on political issues, otherwise they'd be aware that the GOP'ers are mainly for porking more over to the wealthy big time donors (corporate/influence buying to scale down wages and fork the tax bill over to middle class-ers). Of course, there's always one that just likes to talk like they do follow issues, and they might just a bit, but the root of their stance is usually a gun or anti-welfare...that's my experience, and a single issue may very well be all they care about.

It is pathetic, it is completely why the GOP lies, lies and lies, and Faux spreads complete disinfo...people are either working and exhausted, or they just don't get that news from only one source will kill you in more ways than one, and to their folly they end up supporting redneck values and don't even scratch the surface for info, and they just don't have the pocketbooks to be truly part of the GOP base, nor would they want to if they understood what it really means. Ignorance is bliss.
