We Need a Truth in Politics Law
Politicians have always played somewhat loose with the truth. But over the past few years. the right wing demagogues Palin, Beck, and Limbaugh, and untold others have carried the art of political deceit to a dangerous new level ... dangerous to the health of our democracy, dangerous to the lives of people they attack. This perversion of the right of free speech should not go unchecked. What we need is a Truth in Politics law.

1. I have said before that elected officials should be
required to tell the truth under oath to the best of their ability when speaking or acting in an official capacity and that includes while campaigning. Palin, Beck and Limbaugh are not officials so there would be a First Amendment problem with their right to speak out, but when the likes of Mitch McConnell get up on the floor of the Senate or grant interviews in their official capacity and out and out lie about everything, they should be held responsible for it.

2. Absolutely. And if they cant tell the truth they need to decline an answer.
Penalty for lying, disqualification for office.

6. "The truth" is subjective
"The truth" is always subject to interpretation. I have no idea how this would be enforced. We would just end up with the "truth" of whoever controls the board that punishes people for not telling the truth. Also there is the 1st amendment which has the undesirable effect of allowing people to lie as much as they please in order to prevent the suppression of ideas.
