A Question For Al Gore (And Not The One You Think)
Mr. Gore, you were a fine senator and a far better than average vice president. Your work since returning to public life following the 2000 election has been exemplary, even heroic. But there's a small point that bothers me, something that needs to be cleared up.

Mr. Vice President, isn't it time to repudiate and denounce Joe Lieberman? He is undermining the presumptive Democratic nominee along with the Democratic Party itself and he's doing so with a patina of credibility bestowed on him by your selection of him as your running mate. There is no one who is better poised than you to pull the rug out from under this destructive little man. You missed the opportunity to endorse Senator Obama for reasons that are understandable after 2004. There is an opportunity, though, to do him and your party an even greater service and it's an opportunity that rests uniquely on your shoulders. Tell Senator Lieberman that he is wrong. And tell the world that he can no longer trade on the legitimacy that was given to him by you in a different time and a different political context.

Please, Mr. Vice President, do what only you can do effectively. Won't you tell Joe Lieberman to shut up?

1. I imagine dear Albert
has a whole list of folks he'd like to tell to shut up. Maybe he doesn't want to draw attention to all of this. Lieberman is an embaressment to him, why broadcast it all, and for what good cause? Gore doesn't have any love lost with the Clintons either, and I'm sure he would like to tell Hillary a thing or two-but maybe sometimes ignoring certain characters is a way to maintain your own.

2. I don't think the public cares much about Leiberman's endorsement
It's not something I hear anyone cite in arguments for McCain or against the Democrats. This would just call a lot of attention to it.
