Bob Dole: Clintons were 'core of elite'
Bob Dole: Clintons were 'core of elite'

The Swamp

by James Oliphant

snip//

"And you now work from the first of January to May just to pay your taxes so that the party of government can satisfy its priorities with the sweat of your brow because they think that what you would do with your own money would be morally and practically less admirable than what they would do with it.

And that simply has got to stop. It's got to stop in America.

It is demeaning to the nation that within the Clinton administration, a core of the elite who never grew up, never did anything real, never sacrificed, never suffered and never learned, should have the power to fund with your earnings their dubious and self-serving schemes.

"Somewhere, a grandmother couldn't afford to call her granddaughter, or a child went without a book, or a family couldn't afford that first home because there was just not enough money to make the call, or to buy the book, or to pay the mortgage. Or, for that matter, to do many other things that one has the right and often the obligation to do.

Why? Because some genius in the Clinton administration took the money to fund yet another theory, yet another program and yet another bureaucracy. Are they taking care of you, or are they taking care of themselves?

That's Bob Dole, speaking of the Clintons (and, coincidentally, Stephanopolous) at the Republican National Convention in 1996.

3. I don't think he's disputing his elitism, but she's claiming she's not,
so I guess the author wanted to set the record straight. She's trying to have it both ways:

Sunday morning, Sen. Hillary Clinton ridiculed critics of her gas-tax holiday proposal as elitists. Pressed by ABC's George Stephanopolous to name an economist who supported the idea, she said she didn't need to.

"I think we've been, for the last seven years, seeing a tremendous amount of government power and elite opinion basically behind policies that haven't worked well for the middle class and hard working Americans," Clinton said.

4. She can't have it both ways, at least not by my calculations. Your
opinion might differ.

6. Dole was not just attacking the Clintons. He was attacking
the idea that government programs can solve problems.

Instead of attacking "yet another program and yet another bureaucracy." And asking, "Are they taking care of you, or are they taking care of themselves?" Dole should have acknowledged that he is and was where he is an was thanks to the GI Bill, that huge Democratic government giveaway that funded the education he received.

http://www.gibillamerica.com/gibill-bob-dole.cfm

So, as you usual, the Republican philosophy is: I want the government to solve my problem, to award me a lucrative contract for building a school or supplying the troops, to build and maintain roads so that I can drive my trucks on them, to put a stop light at the corner near the grocery market that I own, to pay for schools and hospitals for my minimum wage employees, but I don't want the government to solve the problems of other people -- like poor kids who want to go to college, mothers who need day care, the chronically ill who need affordable healthcare, the homeless who need housing. After all, I've got mine.

Now, who is elite here: the Republican who says, I've got mine, or the Clintons (and Obamas and Edwards and Bidens and Richardsons and Dodds and other Democrats) who say let's work together for the good of everyone and not just those who have already got theirs.

Face it. The Clintons are not nearly as elitist as the Dole Republicans.

8. I don't like when Clinton uses the right wing BS
I think Dole is a Tool, and her "schemes" were a hell of a lot better then the GOP "schemes". I am an Obama supporter, and hate what Hillary has allowed her self to become. Let us not go down the slime hole.

12. but it's Ok to quote Bob Dole about Clinton
No wonder you guys are having a hard time winning over old time Democrats, there are times when you are indistinguishable from the GOP.

9. You're on the wrong board
Rightwing talking points belong over at freerepublic. You should know better than to post rightwing garbage on a Democratic website. You have no shame. You've been alerted.

10. They'll do anything to win
Hillary is a stealth Republican.

How do we know this?

Obama's followers have been scouring the right-wing press for clues. It's a lot more reliable than looking at her own record.

11. Nah, she's not a stealth Republican....
....and far as I know!

Her record speaks for itself as far as that goes:

Voted against Levin amendment
Voted for Kyl-LIEberman
Vows of obliterate Iran...

If it looks like a Repug, talks like a Repug, and acts like a Repug...well, you know the rest!
