Presidential candidate releases tax returns; most earnings were from books


PHILADELPHIA - Democratic Sen. Barack Obama reported $4.2 million in income in 2007.

The presidential candidate released his tax returns on Wednesday. He said his adjusted gross income was around $4.2 million, with $4 million coming from the profits on his two books — "Dreams From My Father" and "The Audacity of Hope." His Senate salary is $260,735.

Obama paid federal taxes of $1.4 million. Charitable contributions were $240,370.

The campaign released the returns just hours before a candidate debate.

guess he got scared that it might come up in the debate. He is just your everyday guy.

.."elitist" - not that I expect the lamestream media to shut up about it any time soon - OR to mention that a $109 Million candidate calling a $4.2 Million candidate "elitist" is a tad - ermm - HYPOCRITICAL.

4. Watch the levelers come out of the woodwork here....
Note to those who don't get it -- very few without serious money to their name can run for president these days, and none will make it. It's an expensive proposition.

I am glad that he -- and Gore, and Edwards, and Clinton -- have all done well for themselves. None of them inherited the millions that Bush did, though some had a hand up from parents who had already done okay for themselves. They all worked hard and smart for their financial rewards, and they are all good Democrats.

I'm glad they are on our side, and I don't begrudge their good fortune.

he paid almost his entire senate salary to charity....i noticed he does`t have his own foundation..
