Did anyone notice on President's Day only programs
about Lincoln and Adams are allowed on the History channel and CSPAN? They praise them to the hilt. They bad mouth the founders and tell lies about them.

Could it be because Lincoln was their only great President? A war one at that? Lincoln would not have approved of Republicans today. He tried to keep the nation united...to preserve the union. This one divides it politically and unites it under the Americas Union with no "We the people" power. They form their own vision of rule and ignore the Constitution and Bill of Rights.

1. CSPAN is doing a year-long perspective on the Presidents ...
with it culminating on Lincoln's birthday on 2009, he was born February 12, 1809.

2. Uh,,, Adams was one of the founders
He helped Jefferson write the Declaration of Independence and was one of the signers of that document. His cousin Sam was on the Committee of Correspondence and railed against the British taxes. Can't think of one of that massive Adams clan who was a Tory, and I've done research on them--John's aunt is my direct ancestor.

3. They like Adams because he was a founder and President.
He also didn't like the "rabble" and believed the educated and prominent elite should rule and make decisions. He didn't like the birth to rule thing of the monarchy. That concept at the time was revolutionary.

Adams passed the Sedition Act (much like our Patriot Acts) and wanted to go to war against France. The country wouldn't have it and elected Jefferson President to negate the Sedition Act.

4. Adams' father was a farmer
and John was not of the elite of the times. I agree that the Alien and Sedition Acts were wrong, and, if memory serves, they were adjudged to be unconstitutional. Adams was far better as a Revolutionary than as President.

5. Ya but he had been an ambassador and mixed with the royals.
HE thought himself important and almost jailed a citizen for being so "familar" as to speak to him. He was a landowner. Do you wonder why Adams was not well liked?

7. I don't dispute he was not liked
I merely said that he himself did not come from the gentry. Like a lot of "self-made men" his change in position went to his head. And he was one of the founders.

BTW, more people are related to John and John Quincy Adams, it is said, than to any other President(s).

6. Jefferson was responsible and negated them in his first act
of becoming President.
