State GOP offers to help Michigan Dems resolve delegate impasse
Mark Hornbeck / The Detroit News
LANSING -- Senate Republicans stand ready to help Democrats set up a state-run do-over primary should they be called upon to help -- but they want a say in how it's operated.
Matt Marsden, spokesman for Senate Majority Leader Mike Bishop, R-Rochester, said today there have been conversations between Senate GOP leaders and Democratic officials about a redo Democratic primary.
"If in order to right this situation we need to play a role in this, we will play a role," Marsden said.
"But we will have a voice in how that happens."
Republicans will want a say in the date of the second-chance election, how it's monitored and how ballots are counted, Marsden said."And it will not come at the expense of taxpayers. It's not coming out of the state budget, even in the form of a reimbursement or loan," he added.
