'Mouthy' Clooney stumping for dad - Cincinnati Enquirer
Edited on Sat Mar-20-04 06:59 PM by VolcanoJen
This is an after-the-fact update on a story first posted by NewJerseyDem in this thread.

It's always fascinating to watch the right-wing Cincinnati Enquirer editorialize their headlines. Sure, they put 'mouthy' in quotes, but check out the crafty way they help to advance the politics of personal destruction by disguising their word usage as "news."

Excerpt:

On Sunday, the Clooneys travel to Louisville for another fund-raiser hosted by Mayor Jerry Abramson.

George Clooney is due to arrive by private jet around 4 p.m. He will attend a $1,000-per person fund-raiser at 5:30 p.m. at a home in Villa Hills, then appear at a reception in a private room at the Oriental Wok in Fort Mitchell that begins at 7:30 p.m. A contribution of $250 to his dad's campaign is required to attend the Wok event.

<< snip >>

None of the events is open to the press. Nick's handlers fear that George will make a critical comment about Republicans that will come back to haunt his father on the campaign trail.

"This isn't about George Clooney," Bob Doyle, Nick Clooney's Washington-based political consultant, has said. "It's about a son helping a father. And Nick has his own views that are very indicative of the values of the Fourth District."

But muzzling George now may be too late. He already has a reputation among conservatives and Republicans as a mouthy liberal actor who takes cheap shots at GOP leaders.

Fair and balanced, isn't it? And the reporter claims that "Nick's handlers fear George will make a critical comment," but supplies no such quote to back up his assertion. :puke:

2. Are conservatives ever described as "mouthy"
And are conservative celebrities ever criticized for "not knowing their place?"

It's an interesting frame we have in this country, isn't it?

Check out the Daily Show's clip called 'Medicalert' to get their take on the Bush admin and their fake news.

"Who does fake news better than us? The White House, apparently. "

8. LMAO, Cannikin!!
Great GD thread on the Karen Ryan matter:

I hate to hijack my own thread, but man, the Karen Ryan Affair pisses me off. The way the White House continues to insist that she really, honestly, swear-to-God-who's-on-our-side-anyway a reporter...

10. In all "fairness" Patrick Crowley is a columnist, not a reporter
And the owner of a very unattractive moustache, I might add.

12. in all fairness, patrick crowley wrote this yesterday
He wrote about Jim bunning's racially insensitive remarks about his Democratic adversary in November...and he chastised bunning!
He interviewed me at a meet-up for Clark and was a really nice guy. and he seems to actually write impartially.

kudos to him. but not for the stache:)

13. Tabloid journalism
This is tantamount to tabloid journalism. Maybe 1/2 step above.
