March 2nd Congressional primaries
In Maryland, republican Congressmen Wayne Gilchrest and Roscoe Bartlett both held off potentially dangerous primary challenges.

In California, there is a republican primary to replace Doug Ose. The candidates are Rico Oller, Dan Lungren, and Ose sister, Mary Ose.

Also, there is a democratic primary to replace Cal Dooley between Jim Costa and Lisa Quigley.

And finally there is Bob Dornan's challenge against incumbent republican Dana Rohrabacher.

1. Jim Costa appears to have won in CA-20
He has 74% of the vote with 56% of the vote already counted. Quigley's negative campaigning and demands that Costa get a drug test probably backfired. They got the Fresno Bee to rescind its endorsement of Quigley and probably lost her any support that she had.

3. The Dornan - Rohrabacher race should be wild.
One is from the Goebbels wing of the Nazi Party, while the other leans more toward the Himmler wing.

The race is just too close to call.

5. Roscoe Damaged Himself:
Edited on Wed Mar-03-04 08:46 PM by mdguss
Roscoe's my Congressman. He is ok on a couple issues, but he is very ineffective in Congress. Roscoe sent out a very negative piece over the weekend. He attacked Rolle and ticked off some Republicans. It didn't really matter because he had the election in the bag. Roscoe has a habit of doing things like that. This said, this is probably Roscoe's last run. Look for Roscoe campaign chair--State Senator Alex Mooney (my senator), to replace Roscoe. Mooney's far right--scary far right. He's way more conservative than Roscoe. Roscoe's son, Del. Joe Barlett will run to replace Mooney in the state Senate.

The Democrats nominated Ken Bosley. At least he (unlike one of his opponents) is a real Democrat and will support the ticket. But he's not going to get elected. He really needs to work on his public speaking.
