Election issue: Bush joined guard despite arrest and no waiver -illegal?
Bush's driving records(join Guard w/o waiver of arrest-is this legal ?

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=676&ncid=716&e=24&u=/u ...

Bush's driving records disclosed

By Dave Moniz and Jim Drinkard, USA TODAY

<snip>The traffic violations are significant in the context of Bush's military career. At the time Bush enlisted in the Texas National Guard, the Air Force typically would have had to issue a waiver for an applicant who had multiple arrests or driving violations.

An officer who served at the same time as the president, former Texas Air National Guard pilot Dean Roome, was required by the Air Force to get a waiver for a $25 speeding ticket when he enlisted in the Air National Guard in 1967.

There is no record of an enlistment waiver in Bush's military file.

<snip>

The White House described the four traffic incidents as two "negligent collisions" in July and August 1962 and two speeding tickets in July and August 1964. Bush was a teenager at the time.

<snip>
Bush's military file contained a second document that also asked for information on any arrests. Portions of that page, his enlistment application, are also blacked out.

1. My son recently inquired about joining the air force
and was told he needed something in writing saying the tickets had been properly taken care of. The recruiter said the military is very strict on documentation of any police record or "conviction" of even traffic tickets.

I don't know why it would be stricter now than in the 60's.

2. Vets have said that without a formal waiver of the arrest - no go - but
Bush file has no such waiver.

3. I tried to join in the 80's
and they (AF) told me because of my overdraft check charges (typical warrant, damn the 18 yr old with a checking account) I couldn't, because they considered that a felony. That was after scoring next to perfect on all those damn tests and having a 1500 SAT.

WTF? :crazy:

4. When my first husband joined the air force
We got a jaywalking ticket the day he was scheduled to leave, and we had to have the cop write it on me, because if it were written to him, we would have to pay it before he shipped out, which we couldn't do at the time.

Bush had his driver's license scrubbed in Texas. I couldn't even get a new DL number in California when someone stole mine and started using it to write bad checks.

5. If you think 40 year old traffic tickets in the 60s are a potent issue ...
Bush wins in a landslide.
