Kucinich Peace Train Iowa bound
Edited on Tue Jan-06-04 03:41 PM by cosmicdot
Peace Train
by Cat Stevens

Now I've been happy lately, thinking about the good things to come
And I believe it could be, something good has begun

Oh I've been smiling lately, dreaming about the world as one
And I believe it could be, some day it's going to come

Cause out on the edge of darkness, there rides a peace train
Oh peace train take this country, come take me home again

Now I've been smiling lately, thinking about the good things to come
And I believe it could be, something good has begun

Oh peace train sounding louder
Glide on the peace train
Come on now peace train
Yes, peace train holy roller

Everyone jump upon the peace train
Come on now peace train

Get your bags together, go bring your good friends too
Cause it's getting nearer, it soon will be with you

Now come and join the living, it's not so far from you
And it's getting nearer, soon it will all be true

Now I've been crying lately, thinking about the world as it is
Why must we go on hating, why can't we live in bliss

Cause out on the edge of darkness, there rides a peace train
Oh peace train take this country, come take me home again

Everyone jump upon the peace train! January 7th

"Get your bags together, go bring your good friends too. Cause it's getting nearer, it soon will be with you."

Thanks to all of you who are taking the peace train in spirit, if not in body. Your contributions of cash, gloves, woolen socks, care packages, postcards, and wonderful words of support are greatly appreciated for our journey into the heartland. What an inspired bunch of peace people!

Here are some last minute details for those of you taking the journey with us as well as those who have offered to greet us as we come through your towns!

Rallies for departing/and arriving passengers:

If you are planning to rally at any of the train stations, please note departure times on the schedule and come a few minutes early. Perhaps you would be so kind as to mail letters and postcards we hand to you from the train? (Thank you, Elizabeth Whitney, for the lovely "Got Kucinich? postcards!) Music will abound at the longer stops!

Packing:

Important: We will not be checking bags, but only carrying them on. You may bring only two bags per person, weighing less than 50 pounds each. If you are going to stay with Kucinich supporters, bring your sleeping bag.

Think cold! Be prepared for the worst conditions. Like you're going skiing at Tahoe, minus the skis. Warm coats, sweaters, boots, wool socks, mittens, scarves, longies, and caps.

Wear your Kucinich T-shirts and bring Kucinich window signs to the stations, if you have them. We'll have extra Kucinich T-Shirts on the train for purchase.

Bring swimsuit for pool/sauna, thawing out being the primary objective here.

2. Ok, now I wish I still lived in SoCal!
Anyone who gets in on this trip will most assuredly have a blast! I rode an Amtrak from Ca to Illinois a few years ago, and I swear that was the closest thing to a luxury vacation I'll ever see. LOL It was FANTASTIC! I asked a couple of times to have breakfast brought to my sleeper cabin because I was traveling with a newborn infant, and the train crew accomodated me every chance they got. They were just plain incredibly hospitable, kind, thoughtful, all around some of the best people I've ever had the pleasure to meet.

A stop in Albequerque gave myself and my oldest a chance to meet some Native Americans, and yes, we did cave in and buy a few pieces of jewelery. Basically, we just loved that trip and still recall it fondly. Have fun, folks! BTW, the food is just superb!

3. I live in So Cal
and I so wanted to go on this trip. In good conscience, I just can't leave my classroom to a substitute while I go gallivanting off around the country. But I'd rather be there! I'm sending my best wishes and thoughts along with the peace train, and am staying home to write letters and make phone calls. Which I can do after hours without any lost classroom hours.

I'll be humming to myself all day.

6. They should be there.
I'll have to pop over to the site and see if there is any news. I missed the peace train due to work constraints; I sure would love to be there. I hope I can make it north to welcome the peace walkers to CA when they get here!
