Hijacking Catastrophe: 9/11, Fear & the Selling of American Empire
(Disney won't be able to stop the distribution of this one, although it still won't get a major theatrical release. Will probably screen in less theaters than Errol Morris' '' Check out the excellent article links at the bottom of the page. The preview is great. -r.)

“What it really comes down to is this: Are the American voters going to sit still for this? Are we going to treat our democracy like some sort of spectator sport, like watching the Super Bowl, or are we going to ask a little more of ourselves this time? Are we going to explore the Bush Administration’s claims? Are we going to look at the details of what this administration has actually done?”
William Hartung | Senior Fellow, World Policy Institute

The 9/11 terror attacks continue to send shock waves through the American political system. Continuing fears about American vulnerability alternate with images of American military prowess and patriotic bravado in a transformed media landscape charged with emotion and starved for information. The result is that we have had virtually no meaningful public debate about the radical turn US policy has taken since 9/11. With the 2004 presidential election approaching, the National Priorities Project (NPP) and the Media Education Foundation (MEF) are collaborating to produce a new documentary film that will cut through fear and political spin to examine the forces driving US international and domestic policy in the wake of 9/11.

Hijacking Catastrophe: 9/11, Fear & the Selling of American Empire will translate a growing body of independent research into the medium of film to show how the administration has used the trauma of 9/11 and the war on terrorism to advance a radical and longstanding neo-conservative plan for global geopolitical domination. At the same time, the documentary will decode the political tactics that are likely to be used during the 2004 presidential campaign to shape favorable perceptions of current US policy.

To assure maximum and timely impact, the documentary will be distributed at the height of the 2004 campaign through an extensive grassroots outreach network to provide individuals and groups with a powerful tool for organizing, informing, and energizing voters.
