This is an update from the original tread which can be found at:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x1447417We have completed our week of activism. We raised $250 dollars to by items for soldiers and more donated goods then we ever imagined. We caused a reaction in every person to walk by.
Everyone either stared or would not look at the crosses, either way there was impact.
I was told by a member of college republicans that i was doing a great dis-service to my country.
I was told by a ex-soldier (whose sister lost her boyfriend in Iraq) that we were doing a wonderful thing. We were helping the soldiers and showing that "this is not a game."
I watched as a girl found someone she knew from her hometown amongst the list of those who are fallen.
I meant more people then I could ever imagine that were angered, saddened and frustrated by this president.
My friend saw a person praying by the crosses in the early morning hours.
We were suprised as smaller memorials began to spring up around the crosses that we did not set up.
This project took on a life of its own as people came to pay their respects.
I recommend any other activists who are interested to try a similar event. This allowed an outlet for those many people who are pissed at this war but do not want to attend a protest and be percieved as anti-american. If anyone would like to attempt this please contact me and I can give pointers and advice on what did and did not work.
In regards to the press that we got here is all of it:
