New Orleans group to hold "Duck and Cover" protest, Cheney visits today

Kerry Crescent, the New Orleans grassroots organization supporting John Kerry, is holding a "Duck and Cover" protest against the Bush administration today! Please join us if you can.

WHEN: Monday, April 5, 4:45-5:30 pm

WHERE: Corner of Poydras and Convention Center Blvd (in front of World Trade Center) in New Orleans

WHO: Kerry Crescent will join the environmental groups holding a rally in protest of the Bush administrations' lack of environmental action. But we will add a little street theater with our own "DUCK and COVER" protest!

WHY: Cheney will be attending a David Vitter fundraiser in New Orleans at the time.

Using the theme of “Duck and Cover,” the 1950s nuclear survival strategy, Kerry supporters will protest Vice President Dick Cheney’s visit to New Orleans.

One volunteer will wear a Duck costume to remind citizens of Cheney’s duck hunting trip with Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia in January. Scalia has refused to recuse himself from the case regarding Cheney’s energy task force, currently before the Supreme Court.

Other Kerry supporters will cover up with blankets as a reminder of the numerous cover-ups by the Bush-Cheney administration: covering up the deceit involved in selling the war in Iraq, attempting to cover up the administration’s inattention to terrorism pre-9/11, and pretending the tax breaks were good for middle America rather than for the wealthy.

The “Duck and Cover” protest also recalls the Bush administration’s scare tactics in attempting to convince the American people that only they can keep America safe.

Spokesperson Lauren Starrett will be on hand to speak to interested media personnel.
