May 14 - Lobby Against the Draft
May 14, 2004 -- 9:00 AM
Lobbying for Conscience's Sake
United Methodist Building
100 Maryland Avenue, NE
Washington, DC 20002
This lobby day is an opportunity for people of conscience to make their voices heard on Capitol Hill.

Come to Washington, DC to meet with congressional staff or meet locally at your representative's district office.

The lobby day is organized in conjunction with the National Campaign for a Peace Tax Fund, Veterans for Peace, Mennonite Central Committee - Washington Office, Church of the Brethren, United Methodist Church General Board of Church and Society, Unitarian Universalist Association of Congregations, Pax Christi USA, Presbyterian Peace Fellowship, Friends Committee on National Legislation, and Presbyterian Washington Office.

The day will be focused on educating Congress about conscientious objection and how any military draft is not a viable option.

During this time when the United States military is stretched thin across the globe in various military campaigns, there are talks about the administration considering a draft. Now is the time to make our voices heard, to let Congress know that WE DO NOT WANT A DRAFT.

2. Those who can't be there in person can start contacting Senators/Reps

In the Senate -
S. 89 To provide for the common defense by requiring that all young persons in the United States, including women, perform a period of military service or a period of civilian service in furtherance of the national defense and homeland security, and for other purposes.
