Tell CNN that referring to Miss USA as a Hezbollah Spy is wrong
CNN – a “reliable” mainstream news source – published an articlediscussing the racist rumor that Rima Fakih, a Muslim Lebanese-American crowned Miss USA, is a spy for Hezbollah, a U.S. classified terrorist organization.

Although CNN initially denounced these rumors made by a neo-conservative blog and calls them “outlandish,” groups point out the poor choice that CNN took when it entitled the article as “Miss USA: Muslim Trailblazer Or Hezbollah Spy?” and probed the question throughout the piece.

“We believe that such discourse is counterproductive in today’s society, and contributes to a double standard placed on Arab and Muslim Americans,” Arab Community Center for Economic & Social Services (ACCESS) wrote in a letter to Octavia Nasr, CNN’s Senior Editor of Middle East Affairs.

Because the article probes for further discussion of the topic, it feeds into the racial profiling that neo-cons have started.

“Publishing this article gives credence to this ridiculous rumor, and creates a more hostile environment towards these communities,” ACCESS wrote. “It creates a space for people to question whether an ordinary American is associated with terrorism simply based on their ethnicity or religion.”

2. Oh God...
You've just given voice to the stabbing pain of a thought I've been trying to suppress for the past month or so... it became unbearable when Israel embarked on the act of terrorism with the humanitarian flottilla... now it feels like a cattle prod at the base of my neck.

You won't be punished for it -- or even called to account. It's open season.

Anything anti-Arab, Muslim ......... no matter how delusional the story is ....... quite popular. I thought when the Bush / Cheney cabal was out things would change, but I guess the brown people with oil are bad factor still plays a big role.

5. They just complaining about this headline
If you look at CNN they do this all the time. I guess they got the idea from Fox. The headline they post with the link has nothing to do sometimes with the article. Especially if it is any thing to do about a Democrat. They post the outlandish question. You click on the article and never find any thing damning about the Democrat.

6. Sadly, many people just scan headlines...
... and don't read stories. It's ironic, because news organizations sensationalize headlines in order to get people to read the stories! But a headline like "Loyal American or Godless Despot?" makes the casual reader assume that there must really be valid questions at stake, so they feel they got the gist of the issue and don't actually need to read any further -- because the question wouldn't even be asked if there weren't some truth to it, right?
