Universal health care tour bus planned

Dear Healthcare-NOW Activist OK, folks: Here’s the News! Oprah tomorrow
and the Healthcare-NOW National Road Show coming up!

I. Remember! Tomorrow on Oprah Winfrey, Steve Skazara, the Steelworker who raised the critical healthcare question at the Chicago Presidential Debate will be wearing his Healthcare-NOW shirt and appearing with Michael Moore and Dr. Linda Peeno.

II. ROAD SHOW – Exciting Progress! As you probably remember, we have been talking about taking a single payer, guaranteed healthcare for everybody on the road. We plan to travel and organize in every nook and cranny, and we plan to find and commit all of the Members of Congress either current or new Congressional contenders to support the best plan for the healthcare of every single person, single payer, H.R. 676.

Everybody in; Nobody Out! Healthcare for Life.

Here’s the plan. The route is roughed out for the first leg. We have some interested participants! We need more. We have a bus and driver! And our board of directors gave us an enthusiastic go-ahead last night. We have about half of the money we need. We have a goal of another $15,000 to cushion this whistle stop campaign to get guaranteed, quality, single- payer, healthcare for everybody FOR LIFE!

We’ve waited way too long to get the insurance companies and drug companies out of control of our healthcare. No more waiting!

NOW WE NEED YOUR HELP IN SEVERAL IMPORTANT WAYS!

The road show will need a core team of three-four people who can make the entire trip from Nov. 11 in Chicago to Dec. 14 ending up in Florida or New Orleans. We have one person identified who can make the entire trip, and a few others who will participate for part of the route. Talk to people in your network and help us find 2-3 more people who are enthusiastic and energetic and can make the whole trip. There is no salary, but we will cover expenses. Plan to drive along with us for a few stops providing support and enthusiasm for single payer national healthcare for everybody NOW. We’ll stop in many towns and villages and hand out materials and talk to people. We’ll also show “SiCKO” in as many places as possible and urge people to get involved in this campaign.

Go to the website www.healthcare-now.org and hit the little green “Donate Now” button to provide support for the Road Show. Make a pledge that will help cover the next ten months of Road Shows nationwide.

IDENTIFYING THE CORE TEAM TO TRAVEL THE WHOLE ROUTE IS THE NEXT CRITICAL STEP. If you are interested, be in touch asap.

As the road show passes through its targeted Congressional districts (15-17 in all), it will need hospitality for the core team for 1 to 2 days. That means a place to stay for one night, and probably a couple of meals. Local contacts can help plan and participate in the activities for the road show in your area, including events that may draw lots of people (concerts, festivals, fairs, picket lines, Truth Hearings, film showings, etc.).

We want to reach the U.S. public, not preach to the choir. We want to get a meeting at each local Congress Member’s office while the road show is in town. College campuses may be good stops where student organizations can assist us.

We will need your help reaching the press and getting a running photographic record and constant media coverage of this historic journey.

We will be reaching out to contacts in each area to hear your ideas and find out who can help. Please lend a hand when we contact you. But don’t wait.

Based on our preliminary route, the road show will traverse the following Congressional districts: Indiana 1,8,9; Kentucky 6; North Carolina 11,12,2,4,1,7; South Carolina 6; Georgia 12,8,2; Florida 2; Alabama 7; Mississippi 4; and Louisiana 2,3. Even if you are not in those exact Congressional Districts, you can help us when we are in your region – or even when you are nowhere near the Road Show.

8. We need equipment for the road show. For example: digital cameras, lap tops, portable outdoor screen, indoor screen, computer assisted projector, etc. If you have any of these items that you can loan or donate, or contacts who might, let us know. We could use a good volunteer techie on the road with us too.

9. We need your creative ideas. How should we decorate the bus? What should the message say? Can we find a clunker and a new and tidy hybrid to follow the bus as a way to illustrate our broken health care system and the responsible, effective alternative? What are the best ways to reach the American public and use the road show to put pressure on current or future Congress Members who might come around to support HR676?

WE NEED YOU. This may be the most exciting thing you’ve ever done! We want to expand what the activists in Healthcare-NOW do best-the building of a movement for single payer healthcare at the grassroots level.

YOU ARE THE LEADERS OF THIS MOVEMENT.

We are counting on you. Call Tom at Healthcare-NOW at 856-966-3241.
