Anniversary of day Laura Bush killed Mr. Douglas is Nov 6th
Edited on Fri Oct-27-06 10:14 AM by IanDB1
Coincidentally, that is the day right before the midterm elections this year.

How will we publicly commemorate this?

Michael Dutton Douglas
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Michael Dutton Douglas (November 16, 1945 - November 6, 1963) was a 17-year-old acquaintance of First Lady Laura Bush (then Laura Welch) who was killed when Welch, also 17, failed to stop at a stop sign while driving and broadsided his vehicle. Welch was not ticketed or charged in connection with the collision. According to some accounts, Douglas was a former romantic interest or ex-boyfriend of Welch.

Douglas and Welch were students together at Robert E. Lee High School in Midland, Texas. Douglas has been described as an active athlete, physically attractive, and intelligent. He was nominated as the school's most popular male student while a junior, an honor typically only awarded to graduating high school seniors.

In May 2000, a two-page police report detailing the fatal crash was made public. The report revealed that on November 6, 1963, Welch was driving her Chevrolet Impala sedan with one passenger (Judy Dyke, also 17). It was a clear Wednesday night, shortly after 8 p.m., when Welch entered the intersection of State Highway 349 and Farm to Market Road 868. Welch failed to observe the intersection's stop sign and collided into Douglas' Chevrolet Corvair sedan. Welch and Dyke sustained minor injuries; Douglas was pronounced dead on arrival at Midland Memorial Hospital. Welch was not charged with any offence.

The future First Lady made a brief remark in March 2000 about the crash, "I know this as an adult, and even more as a parent, it was crushing ... for the family involved and for me as well." <1>

1. Crushing? What an unfortunate word choice. It seems that her husband isn't the...
...only language buffoon in the family.

2. Typical grotesque Bushspeak: "... it was crushing... ."
Especially for poor old Michael Dutton Douglas, who was crushed like a june-bug on a windshield.

15. Yes, of course. Both of you guys picked up on a point I missed,
but that amplifies what I was saying in #4. Crushing. Laura was just crushed by the incident. Crushed, I tell you.

"I know this as an adult, and even more as a parent, it was crushing ... for the family involved and for me as well."

First, she knows this as an adult and parent? Does that mean she didn't know it as an adolescent?

And note how cold and distancing that phrase is--"the family involved." That sounds like something cribbed from a police report. Not "poor Mike's parents, Betty and Sam" (or whoever), but "the family involved." And, like all good narcissists, she then names the REAL victim here: "And for me as well."

God, George & Pickles truly deserve each other.

6. Let's leave little memorial markers at the bases of stopsigns...
all over town.

Little flower wreaths with candles, a picture of Michael Dutton Douglas, and a copy of the USA Today article.

Be especially sure to leave them near school crossings and the entrances to polling places.

7. Oh, yeah, we'd better take the High Road here.
It wouldn't Look Good if we picked on the sainted Pickles. We should Show Some Respect for the First Lady, after all. Like the Pugges did with Hillary.

19. Pickles is a political activist and political campaigner
Edited on Fri Oct-27-06 10:35 AM by IanDB1
She carries water for the Republickers.

Der Pickelfrau stumps for Der Chimpenfuhrer.

She is not Chelsea Clinton.

She is, in every sense, a Republicker Operative and therefore fair game.

16. If it weren't for the constant Chappaquiddick attacks from the right...
Edited on Fri Oct-27-06 10:37 AM by IanDB1
I wouldn't even "go there."

I don't know about everyone else, but it's the Republickers who taught me how to fight dirty.

If this is a monstrous attack, then they're the ones that created the monster.

Here are some bumper-sticker ideas, inspired by the right-wing smear merchants:

I'd rather go driving with Ted Kennedy than near Laura Bush.

My gun killed one less person than Laura Bush's car.

Charles Manson killed one less person than Laura Bush.

8. What does this have to do with all of the problems created by
Bush??? It has nothing to do with the screwed up war in Iraq, lack of health care, poor economy, and all of the other relevant things that really matter.

and lack of accountability that characterizes the current BFE / GOP Junta.

They're all a bunch of unrepentant crooks, criminals, murderers and pedophiles.

Even the "sainted" Laura Bush has a festering corpse in her closet.

Having a criminal past is the ticket to ride for those who want to get on-board with the Bush Regime.

"You must be at least this corrupt to ride."

And besides, Bush announced that this is "Character Counts" week.

Oh, and welcome to DU!

But for the grace of God, or luck if you prefer, any one of us could be the cause of such pain and suffering.

Let's keep to the high road and not become what we detest in the other side.

23. The "High Road" does not mean "The Polite Road."
As long as we insist on telling the truth, THAT road is high enough for me.

The Republickers take the low road by smearing with lies.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with using the truth-- however ugly-- against a savage and unconscionable adversary.

28. No free pass for Pickles. She's fair game. Here's an internet she sent me:

Your loyal support has meant so much to our family over the years. In less than two weeks, we face a critical election that will set the course of George's last two years in office. It's important to make sure you vote.

http://www.GOP.com/VoteEarly/

Voting isn't just for Election Day anymore. In Massachusetts, you can cast your absentee ballot in person for our Republican candidates now. I hope you will take advantage of the early voting options Massachusetts provides by casting your absentee ballot in person.

You can also visit the RNC's special early voting web site to learn more:

http://www.GOP.com/VoteEarly/

Voting now guarantees that your voice will be heard on Election Day. I know how much George appreciates your loyal support, and he is counting on your vote for a Republican Congress he can work with to make America stronger and better.

Thank you for taking the time to make a difference. Please make sure you vote.

Sincerely,
Laura Bush

She may not be elected, but she's chosen to insert herself into the process.

Fair game.
