That's weird, because you would expect that the vote for/vote against numbers would more accurately follow % of people in society who are pro-choice.

Wow. Considering the Republicans wouldn't let Al Gore participate in a recount in 2000, when he was "behind" by one half, of 1/100th of one percent, you'd think that the Republicans would withdraw his name from nomination when they're behind by 10 full percentage points.
