The three-day conference will address many issues, including education, agriculture, health care, nutrition, transportation, infrastructure, and tourism. Members of the grassroots group will fan out across Capitol Hill with issues packets and meet with congressional representatives and staff regarding critical concerns in the Delta.
The Delta, which stretches from southern Illinois to the Louisiana coast, including 42 counties in Arkansas, is historically one of the poorest regions of the country.
Among other speakers and participants during the Tuesday through Thursday conference are retired Gen. Wesley Clark, U.S. Senators Mark Pryor and Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas; Mary Landrieu of Louisiana; and Thad Cochran and Trent Lott of Mississippi.
U.S. Representatives participating are Artur Davis, Mike Ross, John Boozman, and Marion Berry of Arkansas; Rodney Alexander of Louisiana; Jerry Costello of Illinois; Ed Whitfield of Kentucky; Jo Ann Emerson of Missouri; Harold Ford of Tennessee; and Bennie Thompson of Mississippi.
