District suspends student protesters (high school / MI)

WESTWOOD HEIGHTS - An unknown number of students have been suspended by the Westwood Heights School District following a student protest at the high school last week.

Parent Kelly McWhirter said her daughter, a ninth-grader, was among the students suspended. McWhirter said her daughter was originally told she was suspended for picketing, but the letter on her three-day suspension does not give a reason.

"I think it's wrong," McWhirter said of the suspension. "A child shouldn't be punished for speaking up in what they believe in."

The students walked out of class Thursday, upset over the resignation of a popular teacher. <snip>

2. It's good for children to learn the facts of life early...i was just fired

for having a "Free Tibet" sticker on my car. apparently the church folks don't like the Dalai Lama... after all he did get a Peace Prize, real men invade small defenseless countries and brutalize the inhabitants.

4. i live in western Tennessee, they were calling me "Dalai Lama" like it was

a dirty word or insult from a playground bully.

the boss called a big meeting and went into a tirade about someone making a dribble of pee on the bathroom floor, and while staring at me said the if it happened again he would, "make the person squat like a woman if they didn't know how to pee like a man" He was inappropriately "Furious". he made it really clear i was the person.. and i was fired on the way out to the car. We worked 12 hour shifts with 'no breaks' except for 30 minutes for lunch for $6.50 hr. in Texas i was also fired on 2 occasions after a "Long" preaching session about god and Jesus.. i just thought they were nut cases, i didn't make the connection. a guy at the last job explained it to me that last night.. he said that someone had a nephew who was into that Dalai Lama stuff and had spread it around i was a Buddhist. He told me he thought it was kinda interesting, but the others didn't.
