What's God Got to Do with It?: Religion and International
Human Rights

Roya Hakakian, the celebrated author of Journey from the Land of
No: A Girlhood Caught in Revolutionary Iran, and Judith
Goldstein, executive director of Humanity in Action, an
educational foundation dedicated to protecting the rights of
minorities around the world, will join Susan Jacoby in a forum
focusing on the impact of religion--for better and for worse--on
the civil rights and liberties of men and women around the
world. The panel discussion, to be followed by questions from
the audience, will deal with topics ranging from the impact of
radical Islam on women's rights to the resurgence of the
Orthodox Church in post-Soviet Russia and Ukraine.

Hakakian, whose book was published last summer, has been
interviewed on NOW with Bill Moyers and National Public Radio's
"All Things Considered." Learn more about her background and
writings at http://ga1.org/ct/L7_Xvf112P3A/ . For information
about Goldstein and Humanity in Action, visit
http://ga1.org/ct/Ld_Xvf112P3_/ . Susan Jacoby, whose most
recent book, Freethinkers: A History of American Secularism, is
now available in paperback, is also the author of two books on
Russia.

The forum will begin at 6:30 p.m. on March 15 at the New York
Academy of Sciences, 2 East 63rd Street. Admission is $10.
Advance reservations are not required.
