Great dramatic epic songs that could end a movie. Your nominations.
I found a CD I'd put together for a writing project I'd been working on. Basically, it's a selection of songs that would work well over the closing credits of a movie or TV serial. Soaring, epic songs that sum up the ending of a narrative. What would your suggestions be for an imaginary movie closer?

Here's what was on the CD...
Enola Alone - Manic Street Preachers
It's Not Safe - Aimee Mann
Close Your Eyes - Dot Allison
Mr Blue Sky - ELO
How Do You Sleep - The Stone Roses
Everything Must Go - Manic Street Preachers
A Girl Called Johnny - The Waterboys
Glory Days - Pulp
Spring Rain - The Go-Betweens
Run Christian Run - Super Furry Animals
The Girl Who Wanted To Be God - Manic Street Preachers
Overcome by Happiness - The Pernice Brothers
Delta Sun Bottleneck Stomp - Mercury Rev
The Boy With The Arab Strap - Belle and Sebastian
Dirty Epic - Underworld

1. Doesn't it depend on the mood of the movie?
I mean, soaring epic itself comes in several flavors too...

2. two of my favorites
these songs actually were used to end movies ...

Coming Home ... a great movie about the return home of vietnam vets ... as Bruce Dern dives into the ocean to drown himself, the song playing was: Once I Was by Tim Buckley

Once I was a soldier
And I fought on foreign sands for you
Once I was a hunter
And I brought home fresh meat for you
Once I was a lover
And I searched behind your eyes for you
And soon there’ll be another
To tell you I was just a lie

And sometimes I wonder
Just for a while
Will you ever remember me

And though you have forgotten
All of our rubbish dreams
I find myself searching
Through the ashes of our ruins
For the days when we smiled
And the hours that ran wild
With the magic of our eyes
And the silence of our words

And sometimes I wonder
Just for a while
Will you ever remember me

Norma Rae ... another classic about unionizing a sweat shop in the south ... the movie ends with a great song by Jennifer Warnes called It Goes Like It Goes ...

Ain't no miracle bein' born
People doin' it everyday
Ain't no miracle growin' old
People just roll that way

So it goes like it goes and the river flows
And time it rolls right on
And maybe what's good gets a little bit better
And maybe what's bad gets gone

Bless the child of the workin' man
She knows too soon who she is
And bless the hands of a workin' man
He knows his soul is his

So it goes like it goes and the river flows
And time it rolls right on
And maybe what's good gets a little bit better
And maybe what's bad gets gone

Yeh it goes like it goes like the river flows
And time keeps rollin' on
And maybe what's good gets a little bit better
And maybe what's bad gets gone

4. Doesn't really fit with your list, but...
A few of the variations from Elgar's Enigma would certainly qualify as epic. Nimrod, while a bit on the slower side of the metronome, has always occured to me to be a great closing-scene-of-an-epic piece. There are a few other variations which are epic as well, but the names escape me. If I only had my music with me... *mutter*

10. maybe this doesn't fit the premise, but
I thought "Paint It Black" was perfect for the end of "Full Metal Jacket."

11. Yeah. That worked.
I, like totally, abandoned this thread, so I shall make up for it today by flogging it rotten.
