And if the cost could come down to less than half, it would make a good alternative to trailers, especially in hilly or mountainous areas like Eastern Kentucky or West Virgina.

In that case, the price would have to come down to a third or less to make it feasible/attractive as housing in the US. Not impossible, but it would also take a major ad campaign to overcome the prejudice of the people toward manufactured housing: trailers and the Lustron are prime examples.
