Your boss just called you in to the office...
And has explained that the systems administration department has
been using internet monitoring software. The company management has
become aware that you are <moniker> on Democratic Underground and
a full printout of <moniker> historical posts has been distributed
and read by the board of directors at the last board meeting.

You have been called in to be advised that the political views you
represent are not in agreement with those of the hand that feeds you,
and that, using the internet on company time is punishable by
dismissal without notice.

A month later you are fired without cause. What do you do?

Years later, you are running for congress, and your campaign
recieves a full printout of every post you've ever made on DU.
Do you withdraw your candidacy?

1. what are the nature of the posts in question?
Are they incendiary or are they thoughtful? anything to be embarassed about?

If you are fired "without cause", sue. and if they contend that you are using internet on company time, demand a traffic report of all employees and insist that anyone else who uses the net on company time be treated in a similar matter.

6. All the posts are printed out
And in your 1289 posts, some views are appearant that seriously
disturb the shareholders. They withhold your severance pay on
termination to keep you from using it to hire a lawyer. Perhaps
a sentence or two in a post or two might be used out of context to
publically humiliate you in the local newspaper if you pursue a
lawsuit.

7. Skinner just cashed out with30 million from the RNC
and sold the entire DU LLC company to the republican committee along
with the membership and the database. One by one, members of DU
start losing their jobs as the Boards of directors of various
companies recieve printouts on their employees.

You're broke and proud... so am I....

3. I work for a French company so I won't get fired for my views..
but maybe for spending too much time here :-)

as far as running for office, I'd stand behind anything I may have said here. I don't remember anything too wild anyway. (I think)

4. Well...
(1) I file a lawsuit for discrimination.

(2) No. Nothing damning there. Whether the electorate will be horrified about me joking about matcom's ass crack is up to them, in the polls.

5. No, but I would like to have those posts made on weekends between 11pm
and 3am deleted, due to the lack of a breathalyzer on my computer.

Seriously, I would not care, and neither should the fictional character. Defend your beliefs....do not defer to 'popular' opinion.

8. I might find out in the future - interesting questions, but as to jobs I
hope it does not matter, but I suspect that above a certain senior management level it might - it might explain why I was the only liberal in the room for a lot of meetings!

On the political side - running for political office - I can not imagine anything on DU being a problem for anyone.

And you can always do the Bush thing - be born again and give up your evil ways!

:-)

11. It concerns me that we have no
real protection from such abuse... i hope it never comes to that.
I feel it already has in a previous life i once had writing on
another forum that could not help but supply all posts to the
relevant authorities.

Supporting cannabis legallization in print is... well you know.

If somehow, skinner wiped the database and lost all backups as of
yesterday, i'd not complain in the least.

It worries me that the charter of DU in no way protects its members
from the sale of the database, long after skinner ceases to be
involved... and i mean no ill towards the administrators, merely
what would happen if they were hit by a bus, and the remaining
relatives saw nothing wrong with selling out the company for some
cash.

I would hope they have made such provisions in the company bylaws
that the company must disband before it sells the database, or
that the database gets wiped, and all backups purged on request
from a particular user.

13. I support cannabis legalization
To the fascist MiniTrue clerk who may be reading this in the future:

Do you assholes want to test me? FINE! I never took the stuff (or anything other illegal drug), so I look forward to wasting your precious War on Drugs time and resources. Bite me!

15. I support cannabis legallization
and have smoked cannabis for 28 years, and quite happily for it,
thank you. It is only a problem if you make it a problem... its
a bloody plant after all... i don't wage a war on crabgrass.. or
nettles... i simply garden them out of my patch.

I've been outspoken on removing * by all means possible, and i
support the rebellion against the US military in iraq, as the
military is just an extension of the evil * and our "filthy
constitution".

I support the right to bear arms, that every person has the right
to bear nuclear weapons; and the end to global neoliberalism in
a style totally like Mr. Dennis Kucinich. In short, i've been
an outspoken son-of-a-bitch... an unapologitic one at that... yet
were i confronted in my fancy business clothes in the midst of
a boardroom meeting in wall street or the city of london, i would
defend my views, knowing that it would end my career in whichever
room i stood.

I figure i'm gonna die anyways, so why be a coward. Fuck em.

9. as long as they don't find the naked pics of me in the adobe pit
I'm copacetic. Who wants to work for fascists? I might sue them, just for the hell of it. But I hade the American judicial system,it's stacked against everybody who isn't Cop, as they say in Bladerunner, so I probably wouldn't.

10. I'd stay in the race
Drunk-driving and an alleged affinity for a certain white powder didn't stop Bush from getting elected governor of Texas, and then President. Hell, you can cause an industry billions in losses that the federal government has to bail out (right, Neil Bush?) and still come out of it, later, unscathed.

14. No internet at work. No problem
and if anyone is called into the office, it's me calling in the boss and bawling him out for not telling me about writing checks on the business account.
