Awwww, George Bamberger passed away...Brewers GM in some of
their "good" years.

<snip

Baltimore, MD -- Former major league manager and pitching coach George Bamberger died on Sunday in Florida. He was 78.

snip>

Bamberger left the Orioles to manage the Milwaukee Brewers in 1978 and resigned after 92 games during the 1980 campaign to undergo heart bypass surgery. He laid the groundwork for a club that won the AL pennant in 1982.

<snip

I remember singing, "Well Hello Bambi, Yes hello Bambi, it's so good to have you back where you belonggggg..." at the ballpark the night he returned.

Anyone else remember "Bambi's Bombers" ?? Ahh, memories.

1. Hmmm.... lessee.... you were a brewers fan in Milwaukee in '80...
and you're female... I'd say there's roughly a 88% chance you dated Molitor.

3. heh. My sister-in-law had a thing for Sixto's butt.
Reason I mentioned dating Molitor is that I kept running into people who either dated the guy or were friends with someone who dated the guy. It's like he had a couple hundred new girlfriends every year. Classmates, acquaintances, coworkers, friends of family members...

9. And remember Rollie Fingers?
With that great mustache of his?

I still remember a Milwaukee newspaper editorial cartoon, where some baseball player picks up Fingers' bat, and burns his hands.

Someone on the side says, "He must have picked up Rollie Fingers' bat." :D

And meetng Robin Yount...that was a treat.

10. Oh yes, that handlebar mustache...
:hi: Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I haven't been to Miller Park nor will I be. Too many memories wrapped up in County. I remember Hank Aaron running across the field to be honored. sigh...

11. County Stadium
Hammerin' Hank said if County Stadium was ever torn down, it would tear out a piece of his heart.

I've heard Hank Aaron refuses to step into Miller Park also.

6. Oh no!
I met him.

I was working as a beertender (guy who walks around selling beer to fans in the stands) in 1981 and 1982.

"Bambi" was a great guy, loved everyone in the organization.

(BTW, if anyone is wondering, yes, I was a beertender during the World Series games played at County Stadium. It was wonderful.)

Do you remember a tall. scrawny beertender with glasses?
That was me.
6 feet tall and I could hide behind a microphone stand. :-)
(Nowadays, I'm somewhat chunkier.)

Sadly, County Stadium is gone, and that...obscenity called "Miller Park" is now where the Brewers play.

12. 82 was a great year
Even though it sucked to lose the division on the last day of the season. It was a great pennant race.

Sad to see Bambi go. He was a good one.
